    Bob, you are a true hero. Thank you for leading by example.

    That said, I have to admit that I am rubbed a bit the wrong way by the unchecked covert and overt politics lurking in this thread. I thought that there was not supposed to be any of that here.

    I think that if any of us have the answers as to how we got where we are as a country, and how to fix it, then we need to be working toward that goal, and not here on the H.A.M.B.

    We each may be in need of support and have friends in need of support. We need to do that for each other. Finger pointing does not do anybody any good.

    Bob is buckled-down and working hard, others are too. If you can stick out your hand and help, then help. We can all get through this together. Apart, I am not so sure.

    You can build a hot rod alone, but you can't build a community alone. If you build a community, you don't have to build you hot rod alone.

    I understand and have listened to him and read his books. But, he makes it sound so easy to "just go get a part time job". They just cut my hours (again) at work and I have been trying to get a part time job but it is not easy with all the people out of work. I just wish it was as easy as he says it is.....He makes sense but you have to enjoy your life as well.

    Well said brother!!!
    My father "R.I.P" fought brain cancer for 3years, had no med insurance, was uninsurable, I had a nice car/truck collection from 20years of projects/building I had to sell every single one of them off plus many rare speed parts, my sister had to sell her rides also, to help with my dads operations & treatments, after 2 tumor removals it came back a third time, couldn't do a third operation, we lost our Pops, it was because of him, that my sister & I loved hot rods/ car culture/ mechanical things, I would of sold my kidney or chopped off a arm if it would of saved my Pops, what selling the cars/trucks did do, was allow my sister & I to save the land/shop/houses which were payed for, now we only have to pay the property tax on it every year. Now i'm slowly rounding up the parts to build my 51 Jeep I bought for $150.00, I'm having as much fun tinkering with it, as I did when I had the more expensive tin.

    BBOB I admire what you did, if I was out there in Texas, we'd go dig up another 39 cab & frame and get to building it. I'm sure when your daughters finish there education, and start their careers, they will always remember what there dad did for them. When you see them graduate you'll realize it was all worth it:)

    Beautiful pick up !
    I have been there and done that before and back again building another hot rod . Your family should always come first no matter what . Another new truck build can be done at another time but your family can't ! Hate to see that happen to anyone but you are in the same boat as everyone else is the way things are today . It's sucks the big one but be thankful that you had the pleasure to build one and drive it . A lot of other people don't even get that chance , it's just a dream to them .
    Stand tall and take care of your family , then just take some time to say thanks for what you have and had . You will get the change to build another one again someday ! Dream about what your next build will be !
    Good Luck !

    I have no political comment to make especially since I don't live in your country but I do feel your pain. This country is in a similar boat even though our politicians are saying the recession is over....yeah right !!
    Bbobb, I hear your venting and applaud your attitude. It's that sort of attitude that will get you back on your feet and into another car. I had a small business that went down the gurgler and as I had no job, no income & a wife and 2 young girls to feed etc, my 34 Dodge went down the drive on Fathers Day. I have a T bucket now and a Model A roadster project so you can get back. And I just love this quote:

    "You can build a hot rod alone, but you can't build a community alone. If you build a community, you don't have to build a hot rod alone"

    Wise words indeed gimpyshotrods

    Good luck Bbobb and others in the same predicament, you will make it back again. God bless you all.

    I don't want to sound like a jerk here, but if your working 6 - 7 days a week, sometimes 16 hours a day, and you still are having money problems.... well then something is wrong with the way your living. But if you are in that situation I feel for ya brother.

    And Fe26, reading both your post and you signature, I think you need to ... Ok I'm trying to be nice here. Lets just say you need to re-think some things.

    I told my family if it does get really bad, and we begin to lose things, they are welcome to sleep with me in the Hot Rod. =)

    BBobb,
    Your kids memories of the truck will be long gone, but they will always remember the way their dad put them first. Unless of course you make the sleep in the trunk!!!

    In response to;

    Trannyman Sorry old boy it was done under GW Bush. I am not partisan for either left or right opinions, only the facts. Clinton was not in power when a meeting between the Feds and members of the financial industries seded responsibility (self regulation) to the financial players in the big finance houses and banks. Bush is responsible for letting the financial markets regulate themselves, we are now witnesses to the results.

    poboyross That's it? That's all you've got? Not much happening above the stem cell level in your brain is there.

    tradrod I was responding to another posters comment. Shout from the mountain tops for all I care.

    Terry I have given a great deal of thought to my views on Life, the universe and everything (with apologies to Douglas Adams). But thank you for trying to be nice. BTW cute Avatar, I would have thought a certain wry humour might have presented based on that. Disappointed me is comforted by the thought 'A praying knee and a dancing foot don't belong on the same leg'

    The fact of the matter is what Thomas Jefferson said;" Government that governs least, governs best." People living far beyond their means is a major factor, too,

    Guess it all depends on how you look at it. Phil Graham started all this deregulation crap during the Clinton administration. It may have finally passed when Bushie was in charge, so I guess we will blame it on him. We blame everything else on Bush, 9-11 was Bushies Fault, Iraq war, global warming, Financial crisis, Even the chit ObaMo is doing now we blame on Bush,

    Maybe we should start looking at ourselves and taking some of the blame.

    If you want to talk some politics.... go here.....http://www.oldhippie.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=6 we will be more than happy to straighten your arse out and explain what is really happening,

    Otherwise lets stick to hotrods.......

  30. An Obituary printed in the London Times -
    Interesting and sadly rather true.
    (see the list of survivors)

    Today we mourn the passing of a beloved old friend, Common Sense, who has been with us for many years. No one knows for sure how old he was, since his birth records were long ago lost in bureaucratic red tape. He will be remembered as having cultivated such valuable lessons as:
    - Knowing when to come in out of the rain;
    - Why the early bird gets the worm;
    - Life isn't always fair;
    - and maybe it was my fault.

    Common Sense
    lived by simple, sound financial policies (don't spend more than you can earn) and reliable strategies (adults, not children, are in charge).

    His health began to deteriorate rapidly when well-intentioned but overbearing regulations were set in place. Reports of a 6-year-old boy charged with sexual harassment for kissing a classmate; teens suspended from school for using mouthwash after lunch; and a teacher fired for reprimanding an unruly student, only worsened his condition.

    Common Sense
    lost ground when parents attacked teachers for doing the job that they themselves had failed to do in disciplining their unruly children.

    It declined even further when schools were required to get parental consent to administer sun lotion or an aspirin to a student; but could not inform parents when a student became pregnant and wanted to have an abortion.

    Common Sense
    lost the will to live as the churches became businesses; and criminals received better treatment than their victims.

    Common Sense
    took a beating when you couldn't defend yourself from a burglar in your own home and the burglar could sue you for assault.

    Common Sense
    finally gave up the will to live, after a woman failed to realize that a steaming cup of coffee was hot. She spilled a little in her lap, and was promptly awarded a huge settlement.

    Common Sense
    was preceded in death, by his parents, Truth and Trust, by his wife, Discretion, by his daughter, Responsibility, and by his son, Reason.

    He is survived by his 4 stepbrothers;

    I Know My Rights
    I Want It Now
    Someone Else Is To Blame
    I'm A Victim

    Not many attended his funeral because so few realized he was gone.
