Just thinking.....is it really necessary to put the word "RARE" on everything that is for sale? Is there anyone on earth that will pay more for your 1970 Chevrolet 4 door just because it has the word rare on the windshield? What really is rare? Some others that I think are funny is "one owner" to be followed by something like this. The guy that I bought this from got it from his mother who was the original owner. Low mileage. Has only 125K miles and I am not sure if it has turned over once or twice.
TOTALLY AGREE!! Good Post! along with "Cl***ic", "Actual" miles..(are some miles not real?) "frame off restoration" especially on unibody cars, "Rust Free" means they are not charging for the rust you are getting with the car, there are more, those just quickly came to mind.........
The funniest is when you see RARE model T, or RARE, VW beetle... The two most produced cars in history... NOS! Barely used!
The one i really like is the description of "one of a kind" for a model of a car that they built 250,000 of.
How about 'cl***ic car - perfect for restoration or r#t rod project', on an ad for an 80s Cutl*** Cierra (FWD) ...
"1949 Cadillac, complete restoration, 350/350 combo, mustang II suspension, etc.: Huh? I guess my dictionary is too old, restoration meant restored to original.
not car related but i saw NEW and IMPROVED WERTHERS ORIGINAL CARAMELS. New and improved originals? hmm sounds like "all original, totally restored"
How about a very solid, great condition car..... for it's age. I always ***umed that a car was good or bad shape.......how does the age of the car adjust the level of good or bad condition. All the new terms make it worth more, "barn find", "rat rod", "g***er", "nostalgia racer"...... all terms thrown at absolutely anything... kinda takes away the meaning from something real
I love the "stock" '80's and '90's sedans...what else would they be? I just saw an ad advertising a model A as the "finest example ever"...wanna bet? ...or how about the '59 Chevy truck my wife and I went to look at years ago. "Just needs a tune-up". After two hours of working on it I found a flat cam...yeah, that'll adjust right up!
There's a pickup for sale right now on craigslist in nh. Its a "very rare 1949 f-1 pickup" they only made some 148,000 of those thrucks just that one year! This is a direct quote "The body is solid with some rot on the fenders." I wasnt aware that rot was solid...
I,m parting out a 1967 AMC Marlin of which only 2,545 were ever made. I guess that amount would make it rare.....
Don't forget the "survivor" car yet they have been repainted . Guess everything survived except the paint.... Or better yet "unmolested" yet is has different wheels ,radio ,ect.
"Rare" is a code word in car circles. It means: "Hey, I just saw that guy get $10,000,000 for a Testarossa on that TV auction, so it's time to drag out my great Uncles '52 Dodge fourdoor that's only gotten a bit rusty since the lid to the old septic tank collapsed under it in 1965 and CASH IN!!!" It is used only by TRUE BELIEVERS who will NEVER even approach the $50 the car might actually sell for.
Hey, please stop. I sell all my cars that way. don't make me feel bad - use diesel on the taillights and paint to make it shine, shoe polish on the seats, fill some heavy oil in the engine,..... Oh yes, I got all the Parst and Oilchange bills from the scanner homemade..... all my cars I sell, are like racecars - the are built from fibergl***
back to the vehicle in question what they really meant was they couldn't believe someone hadn't junked it yet! simple typo.
Here is the kind of thing that gets me. This car has a 1000.00 price to start but it has a higher reserve. This car will only bring whatever s**** will bring. No one would restore this car...... Says this ......it can be restored to be a very nice. I ***ume that any car can be restored and be very nice. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/1970...ewItemQQptZUS_Cars_Trucks?hash=item27acb0d901
Agreed, somebody will end up pulling the motor/trans and s****ping the rest before that car would ever be fixed.
Here's another good example although not a Hamb friendly vehicle notice it is a rare 1984 and the word mostly original equipment. http://atlanta.craigslist.org/sat/cto/1453770387.html

come on........lighten up.....this e-bayer is a newbie (o sales) and just got nervous when entering the listing........he/she NO DOUBT meant a $100 opening bid.......surely!! ?? hnstray
"rare"."needs restored", "great shape for it's age", "ran when parked", etc. are all code words for the real car enthusiast that mean "stay away from this pile".
