I think that 608 of anything is not rare, but then what do I know. I think that rare is a good way to cook a steak.
Had to laugh at this one. "Mostly original equipment." Yeah except for the built 468, new interior, new paint, cowl hood, lift, wheels and tires, grille, front bumper w/ KC lights, not to mention that it was a "frame-off restoration." Really ? With mostly original equipment? Oh and it was a "camper special". Must of forgot to put that "original" piece on.
A few of my favorite ad phrases: "Ready for restoration" (car has rotted sufficiently so that restoration costs will be X times any possible resale value). "All restored" (rattle can touch-up on the worst of the rust bubbles and a cheap set of seat covers). "Only ****x miles/year since new" (seller hopes that you're too stupid to figure out that the car has 200,000+ miles showing). "New battery or shocks or etc.": (This is the only thing worth mentioning about this steaming pile?) Any ad referring to the vehicle as "she" (As she has a new muffler, fuzzy dice, etc.).
the ebay one says the body needs work. No s*** Sherlock! ya my grandpa's truck "ran when it was parked"....in the mid 80s. And ya its gone to hell since then. I have never gotten the "frame off restoration." technically didnt the body come off? my favorite line is "I am told...." this means they don't know **** but have a friend who thinks they do.
All I needed to see - "74 Plymouth Valiant..Old School Vehicle. All original. Must See' " Meaning: It was Gramma's car, that she used for driving to school as a crossing guard (the car is old, Gramma's old, the school's old, too. Soooo, "Old School Vehicle", covers all the bases!!) All original: Well, that dent on the right rear quarter is certainly 'original', in that I haven't seen one EXACTLY like it. I do like the way he tried to crop that out of the pic.... Must see. Hmmm. Could someone explain how it is that I *MUST* see something?? I've seen and driven a Valiant, even owned one, so I feel that I have had more than enough torture from that quarter, therefore I cannot imagine why I "must see" this particular one. Oooppps, forgot one meaning: 74 Plymouth Valiant: Worthless then, worthless now, worthless in the foreseeable future. And the owner just now realised that, so please buy this from him before he suffers further embarr***ment. Cosmo
how about "ready for restoration" (aren't they all?) or..."needs restored" i guess saying "needs restoring" would cost extra..."original mileage"..really? the only mileage is from pulling it on and off the trailer from the dealers lot??? "no rust" ..yeah, just 35 lbs of bondo hiding it... "one owner" (at a time) "never seen snow, rain, salt etc" yeah right...you'd never drive a 84 caprice in that kind of weather..."always garaged"..yep, it was always in the garage...getting fixed.....for ragtops, my fave "top never down"..then why'd ya buy it??? "have all paperwork" as in.. you open the glovebox and...every oil change receipt, parking ticket, repair receipts, tow bills......"serious inquiries only" oh, you mean i cant just call you and say i had one just like it only different and nicer, wish i had money to buy yours??? "adult owned and driven"...uhhh doesn't it kinda have to be???unless they give licenses to 3rd graders(seems like it sometime)
everthing old was rare, untill ebay came along, now all my one of a kind old toys are everwhere , some one else has one just like it on ebay
my personal favorite is the good ol swap meet sayin "that rear end came out of a runnin car" really? did it really? wow I should buy it then..... what about this steering wheel? running car too I spose? it is a shame people bull **** so much.
wait a minute, everything was rare before ebay... but model A's were $2,500 for a decent 5w coupe and after ebay they apparently are worth 8g's for a builder that is stock and needs every patch panel that smith & jones carry??? how does this work? oh that's before entrepreneurial rednecks heard about RATRODS...
well if the 84 gmc is rare then my grandad is sitting on a gold mine. long wheel base, 305, white painted steelies and half caps. looks like it just rolled out of the showroom but it has been repainted with all new interior.
most of the guys that sell their cars will usually put the ratrod name in the ***le on ebay.but then come on here and rag everyone else that uses that word...i would say they are "rare" opportunist.
How about "ready to be restored" ,what kind of prep work does it take to get a car ready to have everything redone ?
You can make any car rare by option deduction / addition. 1986 Mustang GT 350,000 produced: out of those, with special gauge package = 349,000 out of those, with red exterior = 280,000 out of those, with electric windows = 210,000 out of those, with stick shift trans = 110,000 out of those, with AM-FM-CD = 80,000 out of those, with floor mat delete = 14,000 out of those, with dealer installed map holder = 1 1 of 350,000.... now, that's a rare '86 Mustang GT I always chuckle when I read "ready for paint" in a sellers ad
Locally one of the catch phrases is "Antique cl***ic". Because that is the section in the paper where antique and cl***ic cars are listed. The businesses in Yakima, Wa put out their "Welcome Vintiques" signs every first weekend of Augest for the Vintiques Northwest Nationals rod run although the Vintiques are the local club which hosts the event. That also leads to locals calling any old car a Vintique.
Those ******** buzz words are used because there are lots of people with more money than sense. This one always gets me: "139000 miles, mostly highway". Duh, where else ya gonna drive it? Pscott
If what I know about a vehicle that I am selling amounts to "it was running good when it was parked two years ago and I've kept it full of oil and antifreeze, squirted some lightweight oil down the sparkplug holes and it still spins" then thats what I'm gonna tell them. The rest they can determine for themselves. As is where is on the bill of sale takes car of the rest..A 66 Charger 318 poly with three-speed on the column, tach in the dash and AC is rare...awhile back I told Kevin " I saw it run once" we both had a good laugh on that one...
My buddy had listed his car for sale as: rebuilt motor and trans, new discbrakes, rebuilt suppension and the list goes on and on. This was all true 10 years ago, but its been his daily driver for over 12 years. Rebuilt can be a little misleading. -Saint
