After reading all the threads on homemade quickchange's and talking to Bob at Wilsons welding I decided to take a shot at building one. After about a week's work, lots of chips and at least a few swear words I got it done this evening. Here are a few pictures.
WOW!! Now THAT is how you do it. There have been some pretty nasty welded quickies floating around, but yours is a damn fine example. -Abone.
Pardon my crass language, but that is absolutely fucking awesome! Nice job! Got any "in progress" pics?
Sorry. Don't have any build pics. When I get going on a project, I have a hard time stopping and taking pictures. If anyone has any questions I will be glad to answer them.
very nice job, did you take pics of the build up and are you going to do a tech on this, i would like to build my onw as well. i'm guessing you used a long tube and bored a hole through the housing the correct distance from and perpendicular to the pinion shaft? what did you use to hold the housing and bore the hole with?
Thanks for the compliment. When you are 68 and been doing this stuff most of your life, you learn a few things. Wait till you see the rest of the build, some pretty cool things.
I mounted the housing in my mill on an angle plate. I cut the hole with a 2 inch hole saw. The tube is 2 inch .188 wall DOM that I welded in all in one piece and then cut the center out after all the welding was done. All of the machining was done rough and then I finish machined it after all the welding.
How the heck do you figure out where to drill the holes in the banjo for the new pinion shaft, plus get the shaft square every which way around??? BTW really nice!
Thanks. I really like your roadster and am building one that is a lot like yours. I will post some pictures as soon as I make some more progress. Right now I need to get the frame painted because with the damp weather everything is starting to rust.
