I was looking at the firewall, but looking at it again it looks like it was just painted.

It was a white car from the factory and yes the owner does have pictures from 1976 on, so i'll see if i can scan some of them and post them.

Really nice job. Just goes to show there's almost no such thing as a too far gone 57 convertible.

What is so special about the continental kit? Are they super rare for a '57?

What makes it rare is that it was dealer installed with the correct GM numbers. A lot of the kits were after market ones. The old timers tend to think it's pretty damn cool and rare nowadays. There was also a special bumper for the continetal kit only which he also has. He's not gonna use this and think that E-Bay is the place to list it for max dollar. Hell, it'll pay for the paint and then some.

Ah, gotcha. Did most come from the factory with kits instead of being dealer installed?

From what i was told none came off the ***embly line with contiental kits. Those were put on by the dealer and not all kits put on were GM issued. There were cheaper options that could have been installed.

Black with red interior is a great combo, are the seats going to be leather by chance?

Yep, we may have been around the block a time or two. Our motto is: It's only metal, what could possibly go wrong? Common sense and lots of hammers go a long way, not to mention a good sense of humor.

milwscruffer - As, you know almost any car can be saved and your doing a fantastic job, it'll be a cool ride when your done. I took a basket case '41 convertible to a top 100 in the nation in 2001. Keep us posted and thanks for a view of the great work. :D

Some of these are from 2006 when the guy moved back from CT. to WI. after moving to WI to Ct. in the early 80's. The car went with him where ever he lived but he did'nt drive it , just stored it. Said something about 30 pounds of **** **** in it. The Continetal must have been the first thing he took off when he got the car in the 70's. Told me, him and a buddy did the silver paint back in 76 outside and i have to admit the car looks much more solid in the pictures than when i got it. As i find out more of the story i'll p*** it on with updates.

He might well have a lot of female deer running around!

I'm digging that car - shoot, a black and red '57 ragtop. Remember the scene from "Dr. NO" where Bond is picked up at the airport in a black/red '57 Chev rag??? Sounds like, apart from the wheels, this one will look much like that one!
