Fellow club member wrecked his 32 roadster last night

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by HOTRODPRIMER, Nov 9, 2009.

  1. One of our newest members of Tri-City Rod & Custom had a accident last night and is expected to be ok in the future.

He had been to the drug store and nailed it across a busy highway and on to the road where he lived when all hell broke loose.

It appears that something in the rear suspension may have broken,,the car jerked hard left, jumped a colvert and down a steep embankment into a stand of small trees.

The car is/was not a traditional style roadster but it is sickning to see anyones car smashed.

He substained some heavy brusing around the right eye socket,a broken nose,a lot of cuts and a leg injury that has yet been determined how bad it is.

He ain't dead and is breathing and already talking about rebuilding the car,,,we talked about using a more traditionl rear suspension when it comes time to rebuild.

Luther is 66 and I'm sure he ain't gonna heal as fast as he did in his younger years. HRP

  4. Looks like a Jag rear?
Lots of things going on in one of those rear ends that can get you down and kick your butt.
Tell your friend that he should go and buy some lottery tickets. He is very lucky the accident didn't turn really bad...

  5. glad your club mate wasnt hurt to bad. the car can be fixed.

  6. Bummer! Glad to hear he's OK. Car looks like it's crying.

  7. I believe it's a vette rear.notice the broken coilover shock.

Not good, but not as bad as it might be. Hope both the driver and ride get better soon.

If thats a Vette rear, those bones should both point up slightly, not into each other. May have been binding?

Is that a QA1 shock by chance?

  21. Glad too that he's ok...I'm new here so I ll ask. You guys ever nut and bolt your cars? Just curious Old buddy used to have a 68 bitchincamero with NOS and 9" Ford and no fire system never prepped before driving (nut and bolt) and would hammer the gas to burn rubber all the time..I stopped letting my kid ride with him after reading Prepare to Win.....
    Safe can be fun

That sucks but it looks like the car was put together pretty well to come out of that crash as well as it did with mostly bent or broken but replaceable pieces.

He and I are pretty close to the same age and I feel for him on the healing process. It takes us a bit longer then the young guys.

Glad to hear that he's ok. Now let's help him get back on the road, by fixing his car properly.

Copy that. It is set up to bind or bend with the arms like that. It looks like they were moved to where their ends would both fall next to the frame rail, rather than where they belong. This positioning causes the suspension to have excessive fore-aft movement during suspension cycling, which could explain why the coil-over snapped.

When transplanting suspension components from another vehicle, it is absolutely imperative that the geometry be duplicated exactly. The results can be this, or worse, you could lose you life, or kill someone else, or both.

This car, otherwise, is a work of art. With a little repair, and a little re-fab in the rear, it will be perfect.

  29. wow -Danny. Glad your buddy is OK. Man that looked like a rough ride. What kind of I beam axle was that? It looks like it bent rather than busted and I'd like to know if it was cast.
