can you imagine today what would happen to that helmet during a three day car show?

 

Here's one I built this summer, a custom 1960 Triumph.

 

Here is another I finished last winter, my daily ride "Angry Monkey", A '56 Triumph TR6.

An Opel Kapitän 1957 ... girl in the picture is now my mother in law, the picture is taken at 1959 !

Racecar driver Frank Lockhart,
Starting as a jalopy racer, he was an American track champion and first rookie to win the Indianapolis 500. Lockhart built a car to challenge Malcolm Campbell's "Bluebird". A 2,800 lb car that was low and narrow with a V-16 182 cubic inch engine with 2 superchargers that produced 500 hp. It was called the Stutz Blackhawk after the company which sponsored the car for $50,000. In early 1927 on a test run the Blackhawk hit a soft spot going 200 mph and flipped into the surf. Spectators saved Lockhart who suffered a wrist injury. On April 22, 1928 after a successful test run, the Blackhawk blew a rear tire at world record speed.(225 MPH) Lockhart, just short of his 26th birthday, was thrown out and killed.
