i used to do the same, riding my bike up to russ davis coming up from the west covina/la puente border back around 65-68.

he was running the mach 1 after i started to drive.

gas, a long-time hero, gave me a piston from the 68!

thanks, sky wolf, for posting these great pics!

that can happen, but when as an old fart I have weighed in with a correction or identification, no one has given me any grief....I think most folks just want to see it right (and when I have been wrong, as in mis-identifying the "Tahitian" I am glad to be corrected)...in the end, it is about getting it right.

I heard that the runner lost the race after breaking his crank and then got disqualified for getting rear end fluid on his wife's new white couch...

  14. I heard somewhat the same story but it was his Johnson Rod that got bent...

Yeah, that certainly looks like Alton Dragway possibly with the grass strip between the lanes. Kind makes me wonder if that's my old '55 before the straight axle and other major modifications.

I took this picture a few years back at the Route 66 raceway by Joliet Illinois at a HotRod show & drag. Maybe some Hamber knows the owner.

I remember watching the Hemi Underglass almost take out the guardrail at U.S 30 Dragstrip back in the 70's. He didn't set the front end down until he was right along side of the rail. He sure kept his cool. They had 6 of the nations leading wheelstanders their that day, what a show!!!!!!!!!
