I really don't like the idea off putting it back on the stock frame thats like committing suicide. Very very bad idea the stock front end is notorious for be really ****py.

i have built at least 12 of these cars 3 were clipped the rest were stock susp but lowered never have had a problem i do believe those that have problems are people that never take the time to go thru the stock front susp. and repair what needs repairing .

My good friend drives his 50 all the time I will have to let him know that his front suspension is ****py.
And also its like committing suicide when he drives it around.
Do you have any other vintage time bombs I should know about?

Thanks alot its as if Henry himself made it but just 4inches shorter. Even the space between rear window and deck lid is the same measurement as stock

The basic chop has great proportions, gotta love the shoeboxes. I'll eventually have one in my garage.

    Hi Rick

It's your car - do what makes YOU happy. I think it sounds like a GREAT plan! :D

I have several friends with sub-framed cars who think that it's the only way to build a 'modern' hotrod. To me, building a sub-framed oldie is like eating whipped cream on a hotdog. Fine, if that's what you like... I'll take mustard and onions...:p

I couldn't agree more with the above statement. I drive a '49 that was maintained very well since new and it handles fine. Actually, much better than any of the '49-'51s I drove as a kid in the early sixties. That's because they were all worn **** out by the time most of us kids got them and we never repaired them properly after that.
Great find you have there. Good luck with it in which ever way you
    proceed.

This is a very true statement even so Street Rodder had a traditional tech series (started February 09) about the front ends on shoeboxes and they trashed everything about them even if they were maintained.

Everybody with a shoebox should read it.

Yeah because they were trying to sell some aftermarket parts for one of their advertisers.

Um No. This was legit. There was probably about ten pages worth a material over the entire series.

Oh you mean the one's that have Fatman Fabrications listed at the end of every article and talk about installing ECI disk barke systems. Yeah they don't seem to have any connection to advertisers at all:rolleyes:.

IM pretty sure I never said anything about advertiser he also said that was the cheaper way out of bad brakes. So really all this is about is some guy that's going to put a chopped shoebox back on the stock frame.

No but you mentioned that Street Rodder thrashed stock Shoebox front ends and my point was you have to take what magazines say in Tech articles with a grain of salt because they always have the interests of their advertisers (parts being used in the articles) at the forefront of what they are telling the reader.

Good point but really we all know that the front suspesion is trash they changed it several times over the three years the car was made.
