  2. BITCHIN' THREAD. I have a '66 Biscayne with a BB and 4spd. Where would that fall in for M/P ? I want to build it with a Modified Production theme. Or would it be more at home in Junior Stock?

MP cars were based on weight divided by cu in and you came up with a number, then that number would determine what class you'd run. I'll take a couple guesses here, I think with a 427 probably B/MP, 396 probably C/MP.

Both MP and Jr Stock don't exist anymore, except for maybe nostalgia races. If you are looking to build a competitive, legal class car, no matter what direction you go, it's a ton of money. If you are looking to have fun, there are nostalgia racing organizations you can contact them and build your car by their rules. There are also a few stick only racing organizations out there. Figure out what you are looking to do, go have fun and enjoy your car. Cool car......I've only seen 2 original BB Biscaynes in my life.

I remember the Carrol Brothers 55 well. They ran at Laplace Dragway from time to time.
I am not sure but I think it was thier car that lost a drive shaft at the about the 1000 ft. mark and vaulted the car end over end. Really nasty crash, not sure if any was injured or if it was indeed them, but I think it was. MickyC.

Anybody remember a Texas Drag racer from San Antonio area. Ray Doyon mid 60s 55 Chevy Sweet Pea. From some of the photos and other cars he raced against it looks like he may have switched back and forth from gasser to modified. Also raced one of the CKC fastback novas. more info & photos

A guy I knew bought the Bob Haskett Anglia around 68 before I went to Nam. His name was John Simmons, that was in Syosset NY. Doug Kaplin worked on it. Don't know if they ever ran it.

    Great pictures, Thanks for posting.

  17. I grew up in Chicopee Mass and Debs in Springfield was the place to go for "Dyno tuning". If I remember correctly they had a big sign on the wall behind the dyno that said they weren't responsible if they blew up your engine. At the time I had a 68 Chevelle I was building to race in Modified production and had bought a Ridgerunner tunnel ram used from the Red Barn Speed Shop in Agawam , Mass. "Taj" used to let me hang around there and ask stupid questions and he had a fleet of drag cars that ran CT Dragway & Lebanon Valley regularly. Also usually had a few muscle cars & hotrods out front for sale. Bought the Grumpy Jenkins book and was gonna go racing... Good times for sure. Due to starting a family & going off to the Air Force my Chevelle racecar project never got off the ground. That Ridgerunner manifold sure was a strange piece by todays standards. Looked like someone took an aluminum shoebox & welded it onto an old Vette dual quad intake. But to end the controversy about whether or not they existed, they sure did because I owned one. Rumor at the time was that Edelbrock cast them for Ralph and the script on the top cover did sorta resemble the old Edelbrock style but said "Ridgerunner". Surely one of the parts collectors here has one they can post a pic of ? I believe he was friends with Joel Rosen from Motion Performance as well and IIRC there was some sponsorship involved. Another cool place to hang out was Triangle Auto Sales on Boston Rd in Springfield. Sold nothing but muscle cars back then. I remember going up there one night and seeing a row of 7 Plymouth Superbirds & Charger Daytonas. Take your pick... would you like a hemi or a 440 ? 4 speed or auto ? etc.. Update.. Found this. I knew I wasn't imagining it. :D http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=94562&highlight=ralph+ridgeway

Bruce Sizemore ran the Preparation H cars for years and out ran many V-8's along the way to winning all over the country and many NHRA events.

The six cylinder with that crazy head design he put together had the car running in the 11 second range. Bruce worked for Ford I believe running one of their R & D divisions.

I met Bruce years ago but around 1997 I ran into him down in Florida when he was doing some work for Dokken Motorsports and we got talking about the old days and he told me that everything he had from the old days his x wife through in a dumpster and he did not even have a picture or trophy left.

I told him to stop over to my home where I gave him many old pictures from the early 70's from different events.

Bruce was a great guy and I thought it was important for him to have this stuff.

Preparation H was a car many did not want to have to race in the finals.

Build it as a B/S - C/S class car. Norm Fryer, John James and Bill Isykowski
all had 66 Biscaynes back in the day and were just about unbeatble.

Good luck wth the project-lets see some pics when done.

This Ault and James Corvette belonged to my step father. He sold it to them around 1968 or so I believe maybe 1969. I was just a kid, but I remember riding in the back under that rear window loving every minute of it. I'm including one of the only photos I can find of the car when we had it.

Deany Karns went to school with my uncle and Leo Lopez was a good friend of the family. I used to go watch him race at Kil-Kare in Xenia Ohio all the time when I was a kid. Last time I was home Deany still had the Vette.

I remember the "Zang Gang's" 1955 Chevy. That was one bad-ass, mean-running, Modified Production car!
