Thanks for the picture. Interesting, the car pictured, I believe, is one that was converted by Edmunds to a single bar front (sway bay/anti-roll bar) with coil overs. Mine is an Edmunds sprint front with a half-torsion rear. But what I find really interesting is the bolt on cage - it looks exactly like the bolt on cage that is on my midget and Don said 'someone added my cage at a later date - maybe Don Kenyon.'

Yes, almost looks "maybe" like the shape of the state of Florida .. BUT that makes me wonder WHY Florida (Disney World) when Larry Rice was from California .. did much of his racing in the state of California (probably almost little to none in Florida) and the ORIGINAL Disney theme park Disneyland is in California?????????

In each of the three pictures (so far) that figure next to Mickey looks different!!!!

That is hardcore. But look at the photos closely. The car starting to crash in the top pic, is not the same car shown in the bottom pic. Look at the differences in the noses of the cars.

This is a great thread, I wish there were more pics from the midwest.

I'm gonna post this both here and on the sprint car thread .. Does anyone know how to contact Bob Noll (maybe Knol?) of I think Pennsylvania?

Bob has been a true supporter, advocate, avid fan & contributor to the sport of midget racing on the East coast for many years.

If he were tuned in here he might be able to help with the identity of many in various pictures and with other questions that come up
    .

    THANKS!!!

Hi Ken what do you mean by multi color? do you mean the vinyl stick on that changes color when you look at it from different angles? if this is the case maybe the gatorade flash is the same vinyl? I am not sure of the spider web looking decals represent eitherside of mickey, thanks

Buildy, thats Roger Bailey in the #18 not Johnny Coy. I also think that it is Vern Harriman in the Vittuci car.

    Thanks Jim,

He sure looked like Coy. I associate that car with Coy and it looked enough like him that I "assumed"-with predictable results-LOL.

    THANKS from here too Jim!

Yes .. a young Roger Bailey fits. I thought the face was too round to be Coy.

    Hi Ron ..

I think it was Buildy (Tony) who suggested "multi color" and I "THINK" he meant more then one color paint used .. for example one color as the main color and another as either shadowing or as an outline .. but let's let him chime in here.

I don't thnk they're spider webs & or decals. To me at least they look like a representation of "star bursts" that were probably done in paint too.

    Yes,

What I mean is there is an outline around each letter and at the top a color, say red. The color blends into another color, say orange, maybe some yellow back to orange at the bottom.
By looking closely at the B&W enlargement you can see various tones on the lettering, darker on the top.
I can only speculate on what colors they were without seeing a color photo of the helmet.

I don`t mean one of those chameleon type of paints.

Something along the lines of the lettering on this Steve Kinser photo by Ted Van Pelt.

    Ken is right-those aren`t spider webs .

Not sure what artists call those but they are shaped sort of like a fancy asterisk..

    Once again THANKS Jim!!

The names above (so far) are thanks to Jim Nise.

Does any one know who that is with his foot on the front wheel of the #23 &/or who is in the #61 (I think) &/or anything about the other cars? .. Are those two #5 cars the same .. with different paint jobs??
These pictures are supposedly taken in/at or somewhere around the Islip (NY) Speedway area.

Hi guys your help has been sensational,we have a static show coming up in Dec & I am about to make a decission on this helmet colors so this is what Im thinking;Gatorade flash orange with purple outline similar to a 1977 decal I have.Rice a Roni, gatorade green(on the decal again) changing to orange & purple outline.State of Florida light grey(same with star bursts)& definately fanasy castle on Orlando (black). These colors to me will work with the Gatorade logo colors on the racesuit Im also trying to organize in time.I will hold these thoughts for another 4 days before going ahead as I appreciate your feedback, cheers.

Wow, I stumbled onto this forum quite by accident, when I was doing a google search for offy midgets.....I went through every page,I just couldn't stop.....I grew up in central Pennsylvania in the 50's.....It was a great time......My interest in midgets goes back quite a few years..as near as I can remember it was the late 50's....My pap and gram would take my sister and me to the Bloomsburg fair in Bloomsburg Pa for an all day trip...I can remember all I wanted to do was to get as close as possible to the fence as I could and get covered with all the dust and dirt so I could watch those fast little cars..I think the track was also used as a horse racing track.....It was quite an era.......Anyone remember going to that track????????

Starman1946, I went there a couple times. It was a long haul from Philadelphia!

The midgets ran in conjunction with the Fair in early September if I recall right. Always was a good purse for ARDC, so normally had good fields of cars and drivers.

With Deuce3wCpe's premission, I'm copying this post from the .... SPRINT CAR PIC THREAD, 1969 and older only please.

Sorry I couldn't scan them in, they have been in the frames so long they are sticking to the glass....back of the photos reads "Roth Studios, Washington Ave, Bronx NY"

That doesn't look like "Dutch" Schaefer to me in the leather jacket in the #46.

The owner of the #4 was Charlie Hophan.

Again (as in previous post) the photographer was Eli Roth.

If I can make a suggestion .. post these pictures on the .. "Cageless" Midget Picture thread too & maybe you'll get some more answers.

If you like, I'll Private Message you with Marty Himes's phone number .. he can tell you how to get those pictures unstuck from the glass, without damaging them. ...... Let me know.

BTW -- I just found out that "Dutch" Schaefer's Grandson is here on H.A.M.B. with us.

EDITED with the help of JIM NISE

The first #46 -- Bob Courtwright, Sr.
The second #46 -- Charlie Miller
    #33 -- Freddie Meeker
    #4 -- Chuck Arnold
    #24 -- Fred "Jiggs" Peters

Ken,we are discussing this one in the sprint thread.

I`m pretty sure it is a parade car they used out in the Indy area, and it never raced.

Some guy from Mich bought it from some guy in Indy who said

"All the oldtimers remember this car racing"

Well,do any of the oldtimers on here remember this car racing as a Midget?

If so,I`ll eat some humble pie.
