O.K., so I've got everything installed, and working. It is a home brewed injected system. I am using a windshield washer bottle with pump from an S-10, and an older metal windshield squirter for an injector. Plug is about ten inches from tip, "injector" is about two inches in front of it. I'm using alcohol for fuel. I have spark, I have fuel, I have no flame. Anyone with a similar setup, or ideas of what I could change? Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance, Barn-core.

If you have spark. you need more or less alchol. or more or less air. I think you cant see the flame from alcohol. so i would try to add some oil or run on gas.

I dont think i was of much help here, but its a tunning thets needed.

    Barn,
Sounds like you're missing the 3rd part of the triangle and the exhaust flow is choking out the oxygen. Have you tried your injector/spark set-up as a stand alone - and - Can you try it without the engine running? If it works that way, you'll have to introduce some air/O2 into the mixture when the engine is running by way of reverse louvers / slots in the exhaust or moving the plug and injector closer to the edge of the pipe where they can naturally grab some air.

I vented my exhaust, right in the wall where the 2-1/2 flanged up to the 5" dia tips. The exhaust flows passed these and pulls enough air into the tip to allow for ignition. (With the steep angle of the flange, no exhaust flows out the backing holes.)

    ' hope this helps.

Of course, any attempt on your part is under your own control and responsibility. [IMG]

for me all is in the tuning. I have spent several week ends before it works well, but don't forget that you need oxygen. [IMG]

the injectors are in an ok spot however you need to move the plugs more towards the end of the tip rather than 2 in from the injectors this way when combustion occurs you have alot more oxygen to work with

Could you put an airblower upstream the pipe to add more air to the system? Mix a squirt of naptha(zippo fuel) to the alcohol(denatured, not rubbing) to get a nice orange flame.Smaller tips give a longer flame, larger tips ,a fatter ball'o fire. Sparky

  8. shouldn't the plugs be about 6" from the end? that's what i did works great. alchol injection...scarry, might want to try gas.

The only reason the plugs are so far back is that's where they'll hide under the bumper. The tip sticks out so far so I won't burn up my car. Why would alcohol be scarier than gas?

You might want to try glowplugs. Sparkplugs really don't like to get sprayed on.

I'm thinking there's not enough free O2 in the pipes for combustion. Vents in the pipes, compressed air injection, smog pump air injectors, even dump tubes and lake pipes(when the exhaust is shaped right)are all options sor getting air into the exhaust).

  12. a handful of people keep saying glowplugs, does any company make them that are the same size as a spark plug~M14X 1.25 thread pitch? don't want to keep putting more holes in the tailpipes.

I use injectors 2 pair side and 1 injection pump per side too. To light up you need more oxygen! Becarefull!!! If you have oxygen in your exhaust it's bad because the flame comimg inside the tube!!!! that mean too hot, that mean if you have an leaking fuel or oil you burn your car! That is why i use injector with a separate gas tank and hight pressure fuel injection pump! the flame are after the end of the tube!!! [IMG]

Glowplugs. Would you just wire it to a hot switch on? Do you have to let it warm up before you spray the fuel? If so about how long?

All of this is interesting, but I do wonder the wisdom of using gasoline injected into this. Would something like kerosene be safer, as in less explosive?

I think that's nothing extra in the exhaust, just 'natural" flames by cutting out the ignition and letting the engine wind down with the sparkers on. Nothing added to the exhaust and no choke pull-out either.
Just my opinion. Hard to do. That rates a 10 in my book/

even though I think this is a FREAKISHLY stupid idea, the safest thing to use is B.M.W. windshield washer concentrate.

  25. It sounds like you have it set up right, the problem is you don't have the right gear in the trunk. Here is a short list of what you will need:
    -4 pounds of C4
-1 large roll of det cord
    -1 box of dynamite
    -1 dozen blasting caps
    -2 cans of camping fuel
    -1 bottle of oxy-acetylene (w/ leaky valve)
-1 case of Strike Anywhere matches
    -1 dozen hand grenades
    -3 cases of beer
    -1 wooden leg

Once you get all of this loaded, you will be the "king of flamethrowers" nationwide!
    Remember, BE CAREFUL!!
