Damn, that seems like one pretty rough golf course. After my last round of golf about 20 years ago, I swore never to play again and haven't. Even in my wildest temper tantrums (back in my old days) I never would have gone and busted out the glass of a car. Get those punks and show them what kind of damage a 9 iron can really do in skilled hands.

I am sorry to here this. I hope you find glass. This stuff just chaps my hide. It appears the only way to get the parents to acknowledge their child has done wrong is to hit the parent in the wallet.
I had a group of kids shoot an BB gun at big block Plymouth while I was driving home from Greaserama a couple of years back. It was not your ordinary BB gun but a gas operated fully automatic BB gun. Thank goodness she was only in primer. It dented the bright work; chipped the orginal wing, quarter and side glass and left hundreds of of dings down the side. Luckily my wife was cold and rolled the windows up.
I chased them on foot for half a mile before I caught one of them. I almost ended up getting in trouble! I was the one who had done the wrong thing by chasing them down! If I would not have done it; it would not have gone anywhere. The 18 year old I caught rolled on everyone. The shooter had to pay court ordered restitution. His mother thought it was an unfare amount for an "old junky" car that was not even painted.
Yes, I am a cop. Yes, we are overburdened with calls for service. No, I am not one who gives you lip service about how we are doing everything to solve this. There are so many crimes to investigate you have to prioritize. Instead of fighting crime and preventing these things from happening we have to look at society like a room of patients hemorrhaging; stop the bleeding and move to the next. Never getting the time to check on them again because more are coming through the door. You want it to change? Call you local politician and demand more Law Enforcement Officers.

I had a car vandalized, I was so sick to the stomach I had a neighbor call the police because I couldn't talk.

I don't know about your state, but here many don't know that they're entitled by law to restitution of 3x the damage. When they're caught, keep pressure on the D.A. to make their parents pay. Maybe if they have to take out a small loan just to fix your car, it'll hurt their pocket book enough to take those golf clubs to their kids.

Please understand that I think that what happened to your car is beyond wrong, and that the vandals need to be caught, confronted, and required to pay for all damage and work required to put your car back to the way it was. But the hatred toward these kids shown on the board is disturbing me. "Beat them" "Cut their nuts off" " Put them on a bridgeport machine" "Get revenge". Strong talk. What if your kid got peer pressured into doing something stupid? Is this how you would want him treated?

My guess is this was done by kids whose Dads don't give them the time of day. Kids whose brains have been turned to mush by video games. They don't know what tools are for ,because they have never been taught, and the first time they get a hammer in their hands, this is all they can think of.They have no concept of restoring old cars. After these kids have been put through the proper legal process, and restitution has been made,I see that this could be an educational experience for them.Teach them something about old cars, and our hobby.Take them to a car show.Show them how to fix something that's broken-their bike,a lawnmower-something that applies to their life,so they can understand how your car applies to your life. Sometimes all a bad kid needs is for someone to show a little interest in them.

sorry about that, good that you caught them on film

  13. You must watch too many Lifetime Channel movies-this kind of shit is real, and it happens everyday! You can be these bastards/kids Big Brother if you want, but I sure as Hell wouldn't have the "Warm and Fuzzies", after they did something like this to me, or mine. I will now quit preaching and I hope you do the same!

From what I can tell, this shit didn't happen in the 50's because if you did it your old man would beat you and if he didn't the neighbor whose stuff you ruined would beat your ass. Children actually were afraid of being punished. Now they get a good talking to and maybe lose video games for an hour and get a trip to a child therapist and some nice prescription meds. Our society has gone from teaching kids to be respectful to teaching kids that if they are under 18 they can do whatever they want. Your attitude is as much to blame for this as the sad excuse of a parent or parents that raised these losers. I am willing to bet that if these kids had been caught and smacked around that they would think twice about doing it again. I am not advocating killing them or cutting their balls off but a good old fashioned parental ass kicking.

The result of too many video games, that's my guess, I have seen it with kids around here. I say outlaw video games and bring back public flogging.

that is sad hopefully they catch them

i have delt with the corts on vandilism / smashed by drunk drivers before
    my advice
no matter what it cost you to fix
get at least 2 or 3 estimates on replacement parts from glass / repair shops
the corts wont belive you unless it is in wrighting
and keep track of all time off of work related to this incident

if you do win the case
say you want payment in full
if they want a payment plan they will usally defalt than you will need to go to court again and garnish there wadges
than they quit there job and you need to do it all over again

if you can tell your lawyer i want payment in full or they can rot in jail
boy i got paid fast on that one

Hey dude, I am a golf course tech myself. I used to take my car to work to use the lift too. I had some vandalism done to my delivery but it was not as bad as yours. All they did with mine was key the paint (it sucked anyway) and kicked in the grill (sucked also). We did not have cameras, but the super was pretty cool and they helped me pay for replacement stuff. He ran it though thier insurance but the deductable was too high for it to matter so he just chipped in about 50% of the cost and I made sure to buy very good used stuff to help us both out.

Anyways its nice to see other Golf course techs out here. PM me sometime and lets swap horror stories :)

Read all the opinions here, and I am with Cruisinratiot & RickyBop. The system is NOT perfect, but being patient and methodical is the only way to get satisfaction out of this crappy situation. Yeah, the kids won't get much for their crime, but you can put the pressure on their parents. The BIG problems with shaping behavior of kids today is that the courts make BOTH the POLICE AND the PARENTS work with at least one hand tied behind their backs.

The days when parents could take a belt to a kid's ass are over. Do it today, and you'd likely be the one in jail for domestic violence, followed by public service and/or counseling!

I say, let's bring back the stocks, like back in Colonial times. Make a public spectacle out of the little shits, and the whole community would badger them into behaving in civil fashion.

Like everybody with a treasured oldie, I feel for you -- especially since I have that same model. I have a spare back windscreen, if you don't find one closer. Harkening to Axeman's "Pay It Forward -- Free Parts for HAMB Members" concept, which WORKS. Maybe through the HAMB network, we could team up to get this heavy curved glass from Ohio to you out East? (I once had to pay $90 to ship one from Ohio to California via FedEx, SO that's prohibitive.)

BTW, the WINDSHIELDS and REAR WINDSCREENS of the '55 AND '56 DeSotos AND Chryslers are interchangable.

However, I am NOT at all sure Chrysler SIDE glasses will fit the tracks of the DeSotos. Pretty certain you have to pull from '55 or '56 DeSoto. The DeSoto side glasses are all FLAT. I once salvaged all the widnows from a '56 Windsor, and they were CURVED.

Call the cops every day for an update.
Get ahold of the video and post it on utube!

    Someone somewhere will recognize them.

Can you imagine grama and grampa seeing their grandkids doing something like that.

Several years ago, my brother's house was broken into.
    Kicked in an oak door.
Drank his beer, stole his bottle of liquor, ate some of his food.
    Stole nothing of real value.
Cops were not too concerned, they knew it was kids that did this regularly just looking for beer, and a place to party.
Homeowners insurance really had a fit because it was an odd sized expensive oak door. Replacement cost them dearly.
Cops finally caught up with the kids.
Told my brother they caught them but could not even tell him who they were as they were juveniles.
    With persistance, he found out.
And word spread...............all over town and then some.

What sucks is that they probably don't even know you and were just doing it out of spite or boredom.
