I'm doing a little early research on ch***is builders. I'm thinking of sliding a new ch***is under my '36 coupe. Some parts may not be too HAMB friendly in its next iteration. Thinking of a 4 bar set up in the rear, big brakes, Curry rear and IFS/coilovers. The usual modern parts list. Anyone have experience with ch***is builders that could build a 36 ch***is. The plan will be to sell the entire ch***is currently under the '36 from the radiator back to the gas tank.
We do custom stuff that can't be had out of a Speedway catalog. http://s206.photobucket.com/albums/bb93/ELpolacko/1937 Ford truck frame/
Sounds like throwing a lot of money out the window to me. Your plan is going to devalue the car a bunch......to the point it's not going to be worth but a smidge more than the typical gl*** street rod. Sell the car intact and start fresh on your street rod build. You will be lots of money ahead.
Seems nowadays everyone is a expert on what others should and should not do to their cars. I guess you are looking for a smoother and better ride,,so I say go for it! HRP
you know the old saying "***es seem to get more tender with age!" and "***holes only get bigger!" sure a lot of PHD'S in the crowd!
Doing a 1935 Coupe using Ch***is Engineering bolt in front and rear setups. Quality stuff and it will ride better than my straight axle 32 5 window when done. The older you get the more comfort you want, go for it!
Here we go again with the self appointed arbiters of public morals, taste and the judges, jury and executioners.... 36couper asked for referrals to ch***is builders, clearly stated that it may not be 100% HAMB compliant and what happens? Out come the unsolicited opinions, which was absolutely not what he asked for.
I've had several friends of mine that were very happy with TCI. Mostly not ultra-traditional or ultra-high-tech, but pretty solid for the money.
Here is an example of one of those street rods. It rides on a TCI ch***is, and for what it's worth they have been building a pretty good piece for many years. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=94922
Couple of my friends are running Pete & Jakes 35-40 ch***is. IFS and parallel rear leafs. Good stuff.
Now that is what I'm talking about although mine won't be a kustom. I just want a better ride and better handling. Thanks for all of the replies.
Here is another sample of what ElPalcko can do to give you idea of the quality of workmenship. http://jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=300942
I did. I wish you would have left that one alone. With all of the new and reproduction stuff, no reason to carve up/butcher a nice original/restored car. And with replacing the frame on it, it's really just a waste. How much of original Ford stuff will be left by the time you've 'improved' it. I know it's your car now, and your money, but we're all the poorer for it. Some people just have too much money... Poor car.
Delivering my 3rd 35/40 ch***is this month, seems to be a trend. PM me for E-mail photos. Alliance Vendor
So I take it he bought this car from you and now you regret it? The cl*** envy I could really do without.
Here's another amazing 36 with the setup you're after. It TOO has a TCI ch***is. It's John Mearn's car and I believe he goes by Acme speedshop here on the HAMB. I spent quite a bit of time staring at this car at breakfast this weekend. Here's more about the car... http://www.rodandcustommagazine.com/featuredvehicles/0806rc_john_mearns_1936_ford_coupe/index.html
Is this the car in discussion? I like it! My 35 has a similar stance. <TABLE style="BORDER-BOTTOM: white 1px solid; BORDER-LEFT: white 1px solid; BACKGROUND-COLOR: black; BORDER-TOP: white 1px solid; BORDER-RIGHT: white 1px solid" border=0 cellSpacing=0 cellPadding=0 width="100%"><TBODY><TR vAlign=center><TD style="TEXT-ALIGN: center" id=lightboxholder vAlign=center colSpan=2 align=middle></TD></TR><TR cl***=lightboxtextrow><TD style="PADDING-BOTTOM: 4px; BACKGROUND-COLOR: black; PADDING-LEFT: 4px; PADDING-RIGHT: 4px; COLOR: white; PADDING-TOP: 4px" cl***=smallfont>Bonneville Entrance 5.jpg (4 of 5)</TD><TD style="TEXT-ALIGN: right; PADDING-BOTTOM: 4px; BACKGROUND-COLOR: black; PADDING-LEFT: 4px; PADDING-RIGHT: 4px; COLOR: white; PADDING-TOP: 4px" cl***=smallfont>08-11-2007 10:46 PM</TD></TR></TBODY></TABLE>
TCI and LRS make some killer ch***is and they have been doing a long time. Check their sites and customer service out, becuase you feel better with one over the other. Good Luck and hope these help ya http://www.totalcostinvolved.com/ http://www.streetrodderstuff.com/
That guy knows nothing of the car. I was tempted to tell him I would take his advice if he wasn't still living in his mother's ba*****t watching internet **** and driving a 10 year old Honda with no project in the garage. But I will withhold my temptation. Scootermcrad, yep, that is the car in questions. It's a 50 foot car and is definitely showing it's wear and tear. There were some things I did when I built the ch***is that I'd like to start over with. I drive her hard and want to continue so. Hence, some upgrades required. Thanks gents. There are definitely some great builders out there!
