Hey Al check out Linkin Manufacturing, Kenny does great work, Nick had his frame done by him, so did Richard! Great Idea...I put a TCI front under my 51 its the best thing a ever did to my car, the car I am building now will get the same thing!!!
Not at all. Extremely nice originals hard to find. There's more than enough cars out there without tearing a nice one up. In the end, this car will be just like, as someone else mentioned, a gl*** bodied car and valued the same.
You put the build up on the Hotrodders Bulletin Board bragging about buying a restored car. I was going thru the site to find your 'journal' but there are so many... Maybe it was the Canadian Rodders forum. Again, I don't see any good in destroying a nice old cars when there are enough candidates, aftermarket, etc., to go around. I'll ask again, other than the body shell, how much of the Ford will be original Henry when you're done? Oh, there's another thread on putting S-10 frames under everything. Maybe you should read up on it. I run my own business and live in sunny Florida 1250 miles away from my parents. I don't need internet pron (I wasn't going stoop to this, but see below) as the woman makes me very happy and doesn't ***** about the cars. I've never owned a Honda, nor would I. I have a 2001 Ranger that has given me 240K trouble free miles though. I have thought about a '36 Ford Pick-Up kit for the Ranger as I was looking at giving it a good overhaul. But why do that if I can find a restored '36 truck to tear apart just to find out it still rides like a '36 truck? Oh, and instead of tearing apart a nice car, both of my '64 Studebakers were 'project' cars. The Daytona was a roller from CA and the Commander is an original Florida rust bucket. The teardown on the Daytona is almost complete, and the engine is at the machine shop. I decided to hop up an original Stude motor. Definitely better than using a GM crate motor.
Are you even reading the OP posts? Because it doesn't sound like he's doing anything that would meet the requirements of "tearing up a nice one" in fact sounds more like the opposite, that he may be wanting to improve on one that was torn up.. What's wrong with that?
I sort of expected replies like this because of the forum that we're on. Everyone has opinions, and that's fine. Problem is, this guy asked for help on where to go to get what he needs to do something you don't approve of. As the previous owner, I think it's pretty damn distasteful to publically denounce his ideas, or imply that you shouldn't have sold him the car. The car belongs to him. If you didn't want him or someone else to change it, maybe you should have KEPT the car or have sold it under contract that no changes could be made. To say it will be valued the same as a gl*** car is rediculous! First off, they don't make a gl*** 1936 Ford 5-window coupe, so how can you even say that. Second. Basically you're saying that John's 36 coupe as well the coupe that Cole built for Kirk is only worth as much as a gl*** car. Rediculous. They're worth whatever anyone is willing to pay and again, you're comparing apples to oranges. Sellers remorse. Bummer for YOU, not the car! You should have kept it and done what YOU wanted to do with it. If you're so worried about him ruining it, go buy him a car to do what he wants to do, since you claim there are so many out there.
I just found the original pictures...give me a few minutes to post them up. Doesn't look like it was that tore up to me... Hmmm, nothing like a 454 out of a late model truck and a MII suspension. I was wrong the car was ruined already. Mr Cook is the billit street rodder that drives you guys bananas and yet... Not a traditional build. Can we see the traditional engine Al? How much did you do while collecting the corporate buck as your say? And I'm the one in my mother's ba*****t? Kookie's Koupe
Um, please go back and read again...I didn't sell him the car, and it's not a traditional rod and isn't what the site is about. Right? It's a typical street rod with all the modern stuff no one likes.
Case in point: Don Dillard's *****in 32 Ford roadster. The addition of a new ch***is did nothing to harm this car, IMHO. http://donshotrodpage.net/Project-32/projectindex.html
It's what the car started as. I hate seeing a beautiful car torn up if there are other ways to get to the same place. This is no different than the jack*** that pulled a '36 Chrysler Imperial coupe out of a museum to butcher it into his idea of a hot rod. The car was one of 4 left. He said he was 'rescuing' it from a life in a museum where no one would see it. Of course when it was finished, he put 100 miles on it and sold the creature on Barrett-Jackson for $500,000. Why not just leave the car alone? Why not get a 4-door and screw with that? Do some peoples egos get that big that they'll find the nicest car they can to hack it to pieces. Damn, there are enough '36's out there to screw with, why take one this nice? Don't get me wrong, I love hot rods as much as the next guy. My Studebakers will not be stock. But I think taking a restored (or in this case a 39K original) and parting it out for a body shell he could have bought seperate is just plain ***inine. I think the same way about '32's. I love them, but I could never take a restored roadster to hot rod when everyone and their brother sells them, including steel. Seriously, what are some people thinking???
My mistake. Fine you didn't sell him the car. I misread. Now that's make you even MORE weird. What's your deal? Why do you care so much? The guy asked a question and you were the only one that said anything negative. So he has a 454 in it. Did he lift up the hood and say "look at my 454"? Did he say "I love billet"? Does he have billet wheels on it?? So since MII is not traditional (and I agree, it's not traditional) does that mean that Cole Foster's 36 coupe build and John Mearn's 36 coupe are off-topic as well? Because THAT'S what you're implying. There are absolutely TONS of cars here running independent front suspension and 4-link rear suspension and TONS of THOSE cars running it are done in very good taste and are praised here on the HAMB. It's obvious that you have no intent HELPING this gentleman, so maybe keeping your comments to yourself would be more appropriate. Or are you one of those guys that just has to have the last word?
This is entirely your own opinion. I have no problem with what these guys are doing at their own free will. You seem to be one of the few bugged by this.
With your logic Ryan should be thrown off the HAMB because his 38 has bags,MII, and a hot smallblock The OP already stated he was looking into OT upgrades. I fault him not for his honest question.
I was going to stay out of this but ah what the ****... 1) 36 couper is well connected so why this question 2) it will now be a street rod by all definition 3) so how come this is still going on, another ridiculous drama...
this is the HAMB....we take cars and make them into HOTRODS....get over it. Its how we roll Give me that 36, I'll hack into it and build whatever I want out of it. Just means less rust repair and bodywork for me hahha. I make the restoration guys cringe and cry at shows LOL. I'm sure there are some restoration forums out there for you to hang out on where they will agree not to cut it up.
I used a Fatman frame under my previous 40 Ford coupe. There well made & ultra strong.I have a good original frame for the current project or I would be calling Fatman again.
I have a really nice '36 ford coupe body and fenders. All I'm missing is the frame/susp/running gear. If anyone wants to help me get the ch***is he's sellin (Swifster I'm lookin in your direction) then we can "balance the equation" so to speak...
Wow, I started reading this to see if anyone posted good links for ch***is builders and all I found is drama. Kind of sad ain't it?
I've had good luck with Krylon32 at Cornhusker Rod and Custom (alliance vendor). He's built about 6 ch***is for me all have been great. Just finished my 40 project that also has one of his ch***is under it. Heres a link to the part of the build with the new ch***is in bare steel. Good luck with your build. LOL, very good point. As always I do pay attention when someone as experienced as el polacko starts talking about his area of expertise, I was more commenting on the rest of the bs that started flying.
make the car enjoyable. Big Blocks are fun, a nice ride is good, and being able to steer away from some dip**** in a hurry is even better yet. Build it so you can enjoy it rathe rthan talk about it sitting in your garage because some unobtainable part has failed.
