Putting aside all the handling issues, what's the big deal on which to use - looks? Anybody have pictures of a car to show the difference? Not trying to start anything, just really want to know what the appearance difference is! Thanks
Not to be a ****, but this subject comes up almost weekly. Try to do a search and I am sure you will find every opinion imaginable argued every which a way you never could possibly imagine at this point. My personal opinion, it is all about looks. They don't make radials that will make my truck look the way I want, so I just went and got bias just like the truck originally would have had back in the 50's. Rides perfectly fine for me with no problems. Have NEVER even had to top off the air after 7 years in any of the tires.
You can read through this to get various opinions. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=398420
Karl Fields; Semper Fi, thanks for serving. To answer your question; Nobody picks bias for performance, reliability, or safety. Radials are superior in all of those categories. Yes, it's for the look. Nothing can look better than the ones a person chooses for himself. Of course there are compromises. I love my tall and skinnys on the front, tall and fats to fill the fenders on the rear. If I could get Radials to fit my 20" split rims, then I'd have a delimma, wouldn't I? I love the tall and skinnys on the front, tall and fats to fill the fenders on the rear.
Hey bro, By a long shot it is not my intent to add to the drama that will eventually get this thread cut off, however it does seem that a post very similar to this one and a few other mention already do come up on a day to day basis. The fella that put this post up simply could have done a search and his *** would not have been handed to him.Pretty much has simple has that... Just my silly two cents!!!Now i will shut my mouth
Ever wished you could email someone the swine flu? I mean I dunno how you explain this in a new way for the 8,000th time. They look different. They handle different. It's up to you to figure out the best compromise.
http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=398420 This is what annoys so many people. This thread started just days after the one I've attached. Use the search function, there's a very good chance your question has been asked before. In some cases almost weekly.
search..it's ryan's number one rule... by the way..i run both..on my hotrod and streetrod....this post will go **** soon
What we have here is a hot rodder that came on the forum, was a Marine in the 1970s, might be old and wise enough to be some of you guy's grandpa. Some of you wiseacres embar*** me to be on the same forum. Yes I know doing a search is the way to do it, but I just searched "radial vs bias" and ninety percent of the posts in all of those threads are filled up with lame-brain comments; "do a search" "oh no, not again" "not to be a ****, but, wtf? do a search~! etc., etc., etc. So, a newbie that tries to read through that **** might get frustrated and be tempted to just ask the question. The answer is shorter than "do a search". Does anybody really have a clue how truly boring those comments are? Therefore, all of you people that keep bringing it up; are more of a problem than the new thread that asks an old question. I really don't think Ryan approves of all of that **** from "thread police", notwithstanding the fact that doing a search is usually the right way to go.
This is an attempt to make a nice and thoughtful "give the guy a break" response that has failed. Get real. Being a Marine has NOTHING to do with this post or tires. As far as a bunch of *****s, yeah like most hoodlums. No point to that either. Popcorn is served...ya ****in *****s.
Karl, my honest opinion is that my 36 Ford actually looked better with bias plys BUT it certainly steers, handles and rides better with the radials. So I run radials over the bias plys . Now on my 36 Chevy truck, it has always had and will always have bias plys , walkin both sides of the line I guess !!! Mike
He's been a member since 2007. There's probably been about 500 radial/bias threads since then. Anyway, he wants to know what they look like, not how they handle or ride.
Hmm, so I actually say I am not trying to be a **** and then give the guy some solid useful advice to use the search function and actually spend a minute to give my personal opinion on the subject and I get called out as kind of being a ****. Ok, thanks. I think lesson learned, when the next thread on this comes up (probably about 2 hrs. from now) I personally just won't respond as I probably shouldn't have on this one and just let it drop to the bottom like a rock. Thanks for the call out, lesson learned. Maybe Ryan can some how program an automatic thread kill switch that deletes a thread as soon as it is detected that the words 'bias' and 'radial' are used at the same time. Submit that and then ****, gone before anyone gets a chance to even see it. Any way to do that?
