Jere Jobe did an article back in the 90's on the 94 carb and he said that the power valves in them was designed to enrich a 250 cubic inch engine. Running two of them provided enough enrichment for a 500 cubic inch engine and will provide this enrichment well above 4000 rpm, so you can see the problem with them on a banger. A switch to a different power valve will cure the problem, changing the size of the jets will not. He did not elaborate on which power valve to use, probably because that was his business, building carbs and ignitions. Anyone? Also, forgot to mention that the flywheel did spin, and it turned the motor over.. but i'm wanting to remove the flywheel not spin the motor. I used two tie down hooks to stop the flywheel rotating. Still couldn't get it off though.
28A, I not sure I understand what your doing. It sounds like your using two of the flywheel mounting bolt holes to hold your puller. If that is true then I think you just fastened your puller to the crank and not the flywheel. I just removed a flywheel last night and I removed the four bolts and then tap the flywheel with a rubber hammer through the starter hole. I spin the motor by hand 180 degrees and tap again untill it comes off.
The photo I saw was of Chuck Yeager standing in front of his residence which I supposed was at or on base at Edward's. There was another car in the photo and I remember a Joshua tree in the backround . It could have been Pancho's Place for all I know. Ask around about Pancho's place. Very interesting story, not car related but a piece of Edward's history not too well known. A few years earlier while working at a mine north of El Mirage during the summer I/we saw the first Altitude record set by the X series of rocket? planes over Edward's. Actually we only saw the beginning as it was soon out of sight. It was dropped from a B 36 which circled around over our site. I realize this is not Banger related but some times this stuff sorta shakes loose and fall out of my mind and I want to record it. I could go back further to the time when they were building 71 thru Prado and we cruised the "haul" road in a lake's modified with a chevy 4 with a 3 speed and a Ruckstell 2 speed behind it. Some more history for the So Ca guys. The car, lake's modified, was purchased from a used car lot just north of Sleepy Hollow in Carbon Canyon for my buddy by his mother and he was only 14 at the time. 1949
good article, really clears up lots of things. the price is definately an attractive point for the 94's. As to the power valve...7.5hg/2 carbs...choose a power valve between 3.5 and 4.5hg as a quick and dirty.
If the coil resistance is wrong it will kill the hall cell (trigger) email or call Mel Mallory at FS. He will give you the proper resistance reading. I had this problem and the engine would just randomly fire. It happened twice, first when the parts clerk sold me the wrong coil . He just assumed I was working on a SBC this after I bought a Pertronix kit for a 4 cylinder Mallory from him. The next time the car just died in the tech inspection line and I later found both coil and trigger dead.
I wassn't aware it was that easy. I also didn't know that i was just bolting it together either. Cheers guys, i'll give it a go and if i have any problems i'll come back here.
Heads up for anyone in the Baltimore area. I was intending buying this rolling chassis but the shipping quotes to the UK were ridiculous. It includes an engine and three speed. I was really only looking for the chassis if anyone wants to post it to me for free... I just want to help the guy out as he was very patient and an all round genuine bloke. I replaced my rear motor mounts on my '29 with "float-a-motor" units. I have this weird front mount I have never seen before(on car when found). Anyone have opinions on whether to keep this arrangement and add new rubber or put the stock yoke with springs on there. The least vibration is my goal.
it looks as though someone tried to create their own front float a motor- make sure everything nice and tight before ripping it apart.
Bother.Thanks to Shane at Taylors, I looked for problems in my newly aquired Banger and found it cracked from the exhaust seat over to the bore in BOTH #2 and #3.....I have known Shane for a few years now thru helping him at Bonneville, and would still recommend anyone to go to Taylors for work, even though we don`t have Jay any more....On to the next engine, I have 4 more to look through.....
And now a word from the UnFord group. An update on the Morton & Brett head. For some reason the two upper/outer head bolt holes were very close to the combustion chamber. Within .020 on one side. So I have had the head built up in those two places to give me something to work with. The chamber is larger than the cylinder bore for some reason, so the new lump will have a surface to seal against. Also you can see the as yet unfinished intake.

Sounds good with the short Smithy's on it, sounded even better with no muffler on it(though I think I pissed off a few neighbors).
Very nice! It's funny you bring up the Smithy's, I was going to ask if any of you guys were running one. I love Chris' dual exhaust that he ran all the way back on his A coupe. I was thinking if two 26" or 30" Smithy's were ran it would sound pretty damn good and quiet things down a bit.

The pistons will have to have such gigantiac domes to make any compression at all that I thought I would just notch those two pistons tp clear the weld and equalize the compression.
MAtt- you just need to get your neighbors on oard with you- mine can not wait to see my speedster up and running- they keep offering to help finish it.
I need some pics of tube intakes - fabricated intakes with single carbs preferred. Matt built my header and we're talking about fabbing up an "upside-down" ram horn style intake, with a single 97 on it. So if you got some pics, let's see 'em.
I do not have any pics of fabricated intakes, but for a little while there was a guy building dual manifolds and selling them on e-gay. They looked pretty decent and he also made them with the intake and header on one single flange if you wanted that too. Might look into finding the fella. He was back east also if I recall.-Weeks
Ok, my A has been running great after some tweeking, I had her out today after work & noticed black seapage from the head gasket under cyl #3 plug. It's a Lion Speed Head I got from Charlie Yapp. He told me during a phone conversation, to just use the standard Snyder's copper clad gasket, which I did. It seem some compression is getting out between the laminations of the gasket, is this normal, or is my gasket going south?? Last time I had it out I took her on a good run up the highway, with the overdrive I ran her around 60mph for a few miles. I don't have a tach yet, but she was just loafin' right along, ( no over revving ). What are your thoughts on this?? Daddyo??? Rich Fox???? Recommended gasket??? Anyone with input would be greatly appretiated!! Jim S.
Not rescently, but I have several times. The last time I couldn't get any more out of it. I was going to try again this weekend.......
