I found this '47 Plymouth coupe not too far from me. It's not advertised but the guy said it is for sale. He wants 1000 bucks for it. The good news is he has the ***le. He said a guy offered him 200 bucks just for the ***le. I'm thinking that's probably worth more then the car. $1000 bucks! Come on. That sounds a bit steep.
    What do you guys think?
The body doesn't really look that bad until you open the doors. The door bottoms, rockers, and the bottom of the rear quarters are gone, as is most of the floor. The rear fenders need patches. There is deep pitting on the body where the trim used to be. It does have a nice front clip though. The stainless grill peices are perfect.
I talked to this guy twice in the past month and i think i'm starting to convince him he's asking too much. I have to tread lightly with this guy. He's a few bricks shy of a full load, if you know what i mean. I just talked to him today when i snapped these pictures. He said maybe 800 would be ok. I told him i'd probably only give him a couple hundred bucks for it. I'll let him think about it for a few weeks before i talk to him again.
Is this thing worth fixing? If so, how much should i pay? Or should i just walk away.

This car is a cherry compaired to the 50 GMC I looked at last week. The rust was sooooo bad, I don't know what was keeping it together. And he wanted $500 for it. As for this one from the pics $700 Tops but of course start low--kick some tires!!

Part of me says what can you buy for under a grand..the other part says you will put out alot of money to do that car and its still a Plymouth..I like the Plymouths alot but what you put in it and what its value is when finished will be out of whack...so you have to really like that body style or just want something to tool around with...I'd skip it and try to throw some more cash into the car fund and find something else.....

Basicly a complete car. Tons of parts if nothing else. Probably is worth the g note. Nothing worse than starting with a car that's half missing. The running around sourcing parts can be fun but drive you nuts to. It's a coupe....what can i say.

Lots of work their for sure.

The under side is going to be real bad ,

looks like if it sits their much longer its going to return to where it came from..

If YOU want it real bad I might go as high as 5oo. bucks but thats because if it breaks in half when you pull it out of their you can still make your money back selling off parts and s****........

    Just my two cents !

Keep saving. Unless you have the sheer drive of Joel, that will cost you more time and money than finding another in better shape. If you find one that is very nice for 3500, do you think you could make this one as nice for that extra 2800-3K? Doors, rockers, patches, and every bolt that breaks?
I can tell you that unless to have a lot of skill and tools along with a great nose for deals, you will have more than 3K in the car. Might as well get the best one you can to start with.

Also, how in love with '47 Plymouths are you? Enough to still be in love when it's completely dis***embled and ****tered all over your garage? It's not very high on the list of valuable old cars, love it or not. I agree that you'd be better off spending more money for more of a car.

If its not rusted too bad .Its worth it. That is only up to the buyer ,I personally like them. I know they don't bring the highest dollar .It takes around the same amount of money to build a car,Not buy a car,Body materials don't know what car its going on and the same for paint ,So solely its up to the buyer and his dreams.

I think if you buy it thinking what will it be worth when done, you'll be on the losing end. Maybe you should equate the value in terms of what will it be worth to YOU. If it's not a car you'll be p***ionate about, perhaps you should save up for something that you know you'll love, not put up with.

There's a whole lot of projects that are half done or never done, because it wasn't something the person really liked. I think trying to build something from a resale point of view is a great risk at best. Build what you love, then if someone comes along who love$ it more, cool. If not, no worries.

    P***ion over resale, man.

Old cars are worth what the people who want them are willing to pay. How bad do you want the car?

Not worth a grand... I'm sure there are plenty more of the same model just about everywhere in your neighborhood... buy one of those.

If you really want the car and don't mind all the welding you will have to do , then offer him $600 in $20 to make it look like a lot , in your hand for him to see and you will find out how much BS he has . It.s not all that bad but $1000 is a little much for something not popular .

Bingo, give the man a cigar. I'd think that the going price for 47 Plymouth coupes in that shape is most likely somewhere in that price range. But are you really wanting that model of car or are you settling because it is the available old car close at hand with a clear ***le?

Sometimes parts for those can be a bit hard to find and I would think that replacement floor panels would be close to nonexistent unless someone is making them that I haven't heard of. Are you up to the task of making your own replacement panels if needed?

If you decide to buy it, take the cash green money with you when you go and use that to negotiate. The I've got ** in cash in my hand right now thing just may be what seals the deal.

I've always had a soft spot for those coupes as one of the gals that I knew in high school had one as her daily driver.

  21. YOU ARE WAY BETTER PAYING TOO MUCH FOR A MUCH BETTER CAR:D

there are some on here that at least have a semblence to running, look at the stuff for sale on this board

doing bodywork on a car that is a bucket it just a waste of time BUY SOMETHING ELSE AND MAYBEE EVEN THAT WILL move under it own power, much easier getting a little gratification with a little cruise after working on something

    just my humble opinion,

I still have a project to do and it never seems to get going, I keep buying running cars and have to go through them to make them roadworthy and that seems to be a full time job for me:eek:

Doesn't look too bad, from the pix. Actually looks like a cool car to rod. If you're looking for a project like that, offer whatever you feel like spending on it. That said, compared to what you're going to spend on it to get it road worthy, what's 3 or 400 hundred bucks? If it's what you want, go for it. I dig it because it's different. How many are you going to see parked in the same show?

Unless you have money flowing out of your pockets, $200 is way too much for the car. A car like that should be free. All I seen is huge dollar signs just to put it around the yard once or twice, maybe.

If you can just spend $2500 on a much much better car, do it. Will be the cheapest money you have spent. Pick up 2 months of night shifts, and Sat and Sun shifts, and get a much better start.

    good luck

Just an honest bit of advice, how long can you look at that car and still like it? Will it get easier to look ad as you add thousands of dollars to it?
