I'm still wondering if the production figure of 10 1964 A/FX 427 Comet hardtops is correct. Seems like there were more and I have read there may have been 25 build. I went through my pics and found what may be the 10 if that figure is correct.

    Great pics. Thank You!

    If I may ask:

Do you know if the 1964 CYCLONE model was ever offered in a factory 1964 B/FX and or 1964 factory Mercury A/FX? All of the vintage factory 1964 Mercury A/FX and B/FX Comets were Calientes.

The reports of how many were built seems to vary at times.I talked to an owner of one at Carlisle in 2004 and he stated 22 427,64 Comets were built. Most of the 64s were Calientes as the Cyclone was a late year release.I know of at least two 64 B/FX Comets, one was driven by Doug Nash, the other I don't know the original driver but it is the black one pictured on here. thanks 65 comet, my plan for mine, is to do it up as a A F/X, 460 power.

i completely gutted the floor/ frame, (well me n all these ohio winters) moved the rears forward 12 inches, moved the front 5 inches, motor set back is approx 11 inches. building full frame, cage front to back flip nose front end with econoline axle.

wanna make it a wheel stander/exib. car but will still drive it to shows. thinkin about red metallic with gold down the body line, and some crazy late sixtys font and name on the sides. a few starting pics. thanks again, george

^^"Day one" restorations blow.^^ That car would be so much better looking lettered as it was run.

  20. X2!! I've said that before about the T-bolts. The lettering gives the cars "soul". The look so generic without it!!

  21. Wasn't the Sachs & Sons, Chrisman Comet an original '64 AFX car? You can add that to the list. Bill Shrewsberry had one too. There had to be more than 10 for sure.

George;your 64 should be too kool! The paint will definately put it back into the 60s-70s era.I don't think you will have any trouble doing wheelstands!! Keep the pictures coming. ROY.

I'm not sure about the Chrisman Comet, but it makes sense.

And then there is the Ray Sullins /Gene Hook Motors Comet

I've also heard 12....that almost fits. 12 hardtops and then the 1 wagon.

  24. Sorry, let me correct myself. Wild Bill Shrewsberry actually drove the Sachs & Sons car before Chrisman. It was an AFX wedge car before the Cammer/blower conversion. It then became the red '65 car with a sheetmetal change.

  30. Matt ended up altering the wheelbase on this car. I have a shot somewhere with the rear wheels moved up. I believe he was partners with Ivan Jordan.
Matt also drove the Hill & Sanders T-bolt. I've been trying to track down Matt for a couple of years. Does anyone know if he is still around?
