He and I bullshitted for awhile, he was shit faced. ANyway I wil find the exact info on the altered but I want to say it was used as a shop class car for the local high school and then Larry and a few other guys picked it up and did what you seen it as the pics.[/QUOTE]

small world...I grew up about 2 miles west of this address of his, and his home was just about 2-3 miles west of the old Irwindale Drag Strip...In 1966, I went by that address almost daily...

cool deal. cali was his last place he raced. I think Leslies mom finally gave in and said enough is enough. He would stay for weeks at a time and the kids were getting too old and the winnings werent doing enough to recoup the new regulations. I will find out when he did quit it but I know it was in cali sometime or another.

thanks...and trust me she has no standards cause i have no idea why she is with me.

no different guys. Also he is an Ohio guy but traveled all over racing.

  20. Whitey ask your father in law if he remebers Charles "Boogie" Scott.Boogie was racing through this time nation wide,Boogie is in the NHRA hall of Fame as a car builder. Boogie also remembers all of the little details about who he raced. Boogie at 73 just finshed a cackle fest dragster for Glen Cupit.Cupit won national title also in dragster they copied. Way cool history, Thank for sharing . Gary

Yeah, some cool stuff indeed. My father's old Chevron station in Temple City, Calif. owned a mid engine dragster back in the early 60's. My dad ran it at the strips in So Cal a few times, but had a regular driver for the actual races. He said it was a wild ride back at the rear end of all those Horses. But after some guys had their heads taken off by flying blowers, it spelled the end of those set-ups.

You're a lucky guy indeed and I bet you have more than one evening listening to his stories. And most likely a wealth of auto information. Best of luck with your new gal and best wishes to you both.

It has been awhile but I bought a KB stage VI block off Larry. I think he used it in an A fuel car. He told me he did not think it would last in a Nostalgia Funny Car. I still have it. Nice guy.

    shit hit sent to fat

js rail - thanks man...there are some cool stories

dirt racer - miust have been awhile back if your in cali. I know he did alot of racing there. Ill ask him

So Larry called me last night asking about why he was all over the internet. hahahaha I guess someone called him so I told him it was only a hot rod site. He tried to register but couldnt figure it out. He started telling me about some cars he had but hell there were too many but he did mention a Willys with an olds engine...that got my attention. ANyway Im going to try and get all of the info. He did race from 52-76 so thats the time frame. I told him jsut email it to me and mention everything you want. He also said someone in Michigan was anting to rebuild/copy the red altered car. I can get the specifics on that one. Also there was one rear engine car on the posted pics that wasnt his. The one witht he big front wing wasnt his.

I think someone already contacted him so if anything comes of this maybe some old cats get together and talk old racing again. That in itself would be pretty cool.
