A few pics of my 56 Chevy survivor!

  1. The car is perfect, don't mind the purists. Remember,
when the original small block came out, alot of the flat head guys hated it, and not long after alot of them loved it. I'll bet, that if the "purists"
drove your car, they wouldn't mind it so much. At least you used a manual
trans and didn't puss out with an automatic. The traction masters don't work because they don't pivot like CalTracs, so the rearend is in a bind.
Simple spring clamps would probably work better than traction masters.

  2. If you wanted and had the dough, you could go to a stack EFI,
and hide the coil packs under the dash etc, and put some Moon type breathers in the valve covers (even if their only along for the ride)

I dig this car, great find

  7. Cool. A '56 Chevy resurrected from the grave! Very nice photo staging!

  8. While i get the fact that this is a traditional forum let's face it, old cars are pretty simple. One of the things that I always liked about em' is how easy it is to bolt in a fresh bullet in a few hours and be back up and runnin' again. In 1/2 a day he could have an old small block bolted back into that 56 and it'd be real traditional. These cars are never really done so if he's got an LS1 in it for a while and enjoys the big power these motors make, I sure ain't gonna join in with the cryin' about it. He's writin' the checks and I guess when he gets tired of the power & mileage he can always stab a 283 back in it later.

i'm liking this car alot, but what this thing really needs is a crazy induction system. LSx's look too tame with the plastic intake. it needs something that really fills in the firewall. like how a 6x2 or blower or hilborn setup does. there are some wicked cool injection setups for LS's too. But I think this car rocks! I love the interior. the seats are a '64 chevy? what does it redline at?

You pretty much nailed my dream car, except for the bird on the hood - I'd throw that stuff away before I ever drove it, but that's just personal nit picking. Congrats on building a great car and getting ink already! You'll be a hero on Power Tour with that thing! While you're living my dream, how about Drag Week???

  13. Very nice find, compliments on the changes, I prefer a earlier mill but its a smart choice for what you will be doing with the car. Next put a Southern A/C unit in and you will really twist up some minds. I just brought home a 57 150 with very similar story of its existence and have plans of doing a stance and attitude change. Sometimes I get torn between leaving a one owner survivor alone or hot rod it, I go back to my early days when that is what you did with tri-five Chevys, change it to hot rod and that is what is going to happen, been collecting stuff forever and it will be fun adding all the goodies to this build. Good luck with your car on the tour. Oh, did you ever notice the close similarities of a 56 to a 66 Nova. Hmmm...:).

Yep, seats are out of a 64 Impala SS. Its what my dad said that guys used to put in back in the day. This motor redlines at 7000rpm. The cam makes peak hp at 6400rpm, I usually twist it to 6800 :D.

Love the Impala seats. My '55 has '67 Camaro buckets but I'd like to replace them with Impalas like these.

  19. For all of the folks getting sick over your mill, try rigging up an inline six valve cover possibly with a fake plastic head to cover your intake. This should be good for a double take or two.

This is a very nice car you have, other than the fact that the front bumper fell off and that you spun the chrome off of the rear Cragers..... Rave On..........
