  5. If any of ya happen to have one of these laying around I'd like to buy it for my 57 Bel Air. You might as well sell it to me. You can't get parts for it.. Yes I know what it is. How many others do ?

  6. Ding ding.. we have a winner. Now tell me you didn't cheat & go by the fact that it says what it is when you hold the mouse over the pic.. About as rare as they get. All aluminum block & heads. Completely unique parts but based on a smallblock block. Somewhere between 5 & 10 engines built for Trans Am racing in 1969 & only 4 or 5 known to exist these days.

  7. I'd love to have one of those ultra rare Chevy hemis to stick into this. My garage find 57 Bel Air.

  8. Well, yeah dude, of course I did! As soon as I clicked on the photo, the name came up. How about a link so we can learn more? I rode in a real '69 Z28 as an adolescent and the sound of the 302 stays with me to this day. Bet that hemi 302 was amazing.

  11. "Big cars" were some of the most beautiful race cars ever built!
Wouldn't I love to have that set of wheels for my roadster!

  12. Isn't it amazing what these things could go through? I'd like to see any modern two wheel drive vehicle do that today.

Gone back 110 pgs and haven't seen this one yet. My personal favorite drag race shot. Wild Willie was one of the greats.

MadJack68, that can't be Willie. He always held the driver's door closed with his left hand.

Did you see the caption on the color pic? I think I remember him answering in an interview that he had to hold the door closed. The man most of had giant balls!!

Wrong. He didn't hold the door closed. He always said that he would drive with one hand because the altereds were so twitchy and violent that, for him, if he used both hands, he would have a tendency to overwork the car. He found that using one hand (some of the time) that he had a more smooth run.

There were no doors - Willie was simply holding on - look at the width of the cage - the seat was that wide as well.
The man had real Balls, I've seen pics of him flying the front axle through the lights at the top end.
Along with 'Jungle' he was one of Drag Racings greatest showmen.
    Sadly missed.

Actually at first he denied that he took a hand off the wheel until the photographer showed him the pic. It happened so fast he didn't realize he was doing that.
