Firewall in the MEL roadster, just posted by g***erkid, is kicking my ****, tried a couple of things but just not happy with them . Working on number 3, like to see what you guys have done . Engine (left hand bank) would recess into the stock firewall by about 2 inches. First I reversed the stock one but was to far back, cut it out and cut out the center and welded in a 18 ga that i bead rolled the original design "reveals" welded it in and didn't like it, so cut it out ,looking for ideas.
Exactly what I'm doing. I made a 2 1/2" recessed flat wall and I'm going to overlay it with stainless
Not sure what your project is but in the Past I never cut a Firewall in Model A's. I'd just move the Rad. forward a few inches. That's Way easier. Of course you can't run a stock hood then but we wanted to show off that new Mill anyway. The Wizzard
I put a $20 swap meet 30-31 firewall in my 29 fordor. I had to pie cut the upper corners and repair all the tears. Not completed, but you can get the idea.
We've got the ugly, flat *****'n firewall that came with our 29 coupe project still in it. Lots of room for the motor, not so much room for us. I do, however, like how that 30-31 wall looks/fits. Sweet!
I used a half a garden wheel barrow. Kinda hard to see in pic and fitted for sbf which takes up abit more room
Somewhere on this site I thought someone posted a very nice recessed firewall, but I can't find it. I just cut mine and added a recessed part in the center as I wanted to retain most of the original..............here is a picture. I also wanted to have as much leg room as possible, hence I didn't recess it much.
I removed the stock firewall with the plan to reverse it.I didn't like the way it was looking,so I built the new one and welded it in place.
Well, we have done it , works out great ,then ya got a spare wheel and some handles that may just come in handy one day
