I need to know the correct name for the bar that links the two steering arms together that goes where i tried to outline. Also do i need a panhard bar to ho;d in place or is it okay the way its setup. Thanks and sorry for the questions not real familiar and wanna start getting it road worthy for next year..
It is a tie rod. The rod between the steering box pitman arm and the steering arm is the drag link. Roadworthy by next year gives you plenty of time to sit down and read a few books about old cars and learn the terminology for the basic parts of same. I think you're going to find that trailer spring you have installed there is going to be a little stiff for your little car.
No panhard needed with a suicide setup as this... the part you are looking for is a tie rod. You will have to make sure you have correct camber angles, as well as caster angles will setting up the front end.
Read up on ''Ackerman'' as well.....your steering arms will need to be changed...to intersect with the kingpins better.....Littleman.....you will find the info here thru the search function..
yea, it's a tie-rod. i think you may be better off with a standard reversed eye hot rod spring and a standard suicide mount. what are your plans for mounting the radiator on that? I don't see where your hoses can go without hitting that spring mount. also, you may want to try and engineer everything so the steering arms are behind the axle, they will may driving it a lot nicer. i'm not telling how to build your car, just making suggestions.

Hey i meant to ask you guys but once i run the tie rod from wheel to wheel, i have a vega steering box with the pit man arm but what do i connect the drag link to? Would i need to buy a upper steering arm to connect to the upper part of the spindle? Thanks again Jason
Naw from the vega box to the passenger steering arm, which should have a secondary hole in it for the drag link to hook to...John
my driver side has the secondary hole and it is blocked by the front axle. Also if i figured a way to clear that i still wouldnt be able to turn tires would hit the rod on a left turn.

The steering arms look like speedway items, and are on the wrong side. They are designed to go towards the rear of the car. That is why your secondary hole is on the drivers side instead of the passenger side...John

I don't know. I think you are at the point of trial and error. most suspensions are designed to be installed a certain way. So mocking it up very carefully and checking and rechecking while keeping safety in mind. And as said before, read up on every thing you can find about front suspension design and function...John
It looks like you have Speedway steering arms & hairpins, so you probably have a Speedway catalog. Check out the little diagrams that they have with the stuff they sell. They're very helpful in understanding the basics. If you check out the one for "cross steering," you'll see how things should be set up. If you turn the steering arms around, which really should be done, the tie rod & drag link should pass between the bars of the passenger hairpin. It's hard to tell, but it appears that your motor (at least) is high enough for this to happen. Don't forget, there are flat & offset pitman arms for the Vega box that might give you the needed alignment.
I dont want to be a smart ass here but if it were mine I would do a litte more engineering on that front end...That front spring mount looks very dangerous to me especially knowing those Okla roads.....The Vega box is made for a cross steer....not a side steer..get yourself a 50's Ford P U steering box and go side steer.. And by all means brace that damn front perch arrangement..
I have to second his comments including the first one. The way you have that set up now is going to put a lot of stress the welds from that riser setup to the frame it's self. By the time you get decent braces on it there won't be room for a radiator behind it. It might survive as a fairgrounds poser but I have my doubts on how it will hold up being driven on real roads in real time. The car it's self couldn't make it in or out of my driveway as it is set up. I like low cars as well as anyone on here but one has to face reality if he is actually going to plan on driving a car he builds on pubic roads and expect to actually drive it somewhere without getting hung up all the time. The setup you have won't work with a Vega box and cross steer. The tie rod and drag link/steering link have to be behind the axle for that to work. you will have to run a box such as the one Wbrw32 suggested or one of the cowl steering setups like a few of the guys run. It may be time to back up a few steps and actually plan the whole thing out right so that it will be a drivable car unless that hasn't been the plan from the get go.
