Senneker's '57 looks pretty bad ***...my first memories of Michigan racers was back as a kid at Heidelberg,Pa speedway watching the 2 Howe cars of Ed and Tom Maier(spelling?) numbered "Going" and "Gone".
    great pics..thanks!

I'm sure you've probably seen this website, but it has a little bit of the history of the race tracks, past & present.

I love to see this kind of stuff thanks for posting! Got any more?

  15. Very cool shots. I'd hate to have been the guy who had to paint the checkerboard T roadster. Bet he never did another!

  18. I still see Tom from time to time;a really great guy. He and his son run a vintage snowmobile and PWC salvage yard in Mid-MI. He wasn't aware of the pic of his car on the Water Winter Wonderland site(great for MI history) until I showed him.
My dad sponsored a '55 Chevy that ran at Auto City Speedway back in the early-mid Sixties;I do remember the car going over the turn three wall and out of the track. Bummer. I'd love to find some pics of that time and find a pic of that car.

I'm glad I raced in the 70s and 80s and in South Michigan, those tracks look rough!

That's pretty much it,..... If I find more I'll post them if you guys are interested.

  21. Back then those cars were what your '80s Monte Carlos, Gran Prixs and so on are to us today. In fact around here those are getting pretty scarce, and what they run as a "street stock" is just about a full on race ch***is with some tin and an aftermarket nose and tail stuck on it, so they can run still newer bodies on them.
