1928 chevy sedan to a sedan delivery

Well update for this weekend 8-22 and 8-23. I decided to finish up my running board supports, and splash aprons, so they will fit my channeled front fenders. All the running board supports had to be lenghtened, and I had to cut my brand new splash aprons front to back, right down the middle, and add 2 3/8th inch at the very front, tapered towards the rear fender to 0. They fit good and I made the reveal line in the splash apron follow the body and the new slope of the running boards so hopefully it will all blend in when finished. Then I decided to repair the original gas tank and add a new filler neck for a more modern cap. 1. so I could use it and 2. so I can have the original gas guage that is spelled emty, on the back of the car, along with a new guage in the car just thought it'd be cool. Have a look...John

 

Looks good you can't really even see that you modified the splash aprons and I bet when you get it all slicked up and painted most people won't even notice. Definitely looks better now that you got rid of that tire/fender gap. Tank looks like its in good shape, good luck if you ever have to find another original gas gauge ha.

Yeah I have been working on it, but mostly welding and grinding and that's a little boring for posting. I also picked up my future project for after the 28. It's a 51 ford club coupe in pieces just the way I like them. It has all the pieces except frame, and floorboards. Kinda llike an open canvas...John

 

Ghost that gas tank air tight??? I just got done shortening a 47" tank to a 40" one . It leaks very tiny bubbles in certain areas when I pressuize it. Not to bad. THinking of giving up on the tank unless leading the tank would work.

 

Yeah we checked it over pretty good. I think I will buy a new tank instead of using this one when the money comes in. Cause this one is only 10 gallons and the new tank offered is 15 gallons. Plus I like the security of knowing it's good. All the modern fittings are factory installed, along with new straps...John

P.S. I think they were soldered

 

I had a '29 Chivvy tank apart a few years ago because it was all rusty inside. I sandblasted it, then soldered the end back in and used the sloshing compound in it. That stuff works really good if the inside of the tank is toot-sweet clean, not so good if it hasn't been cleaned thouroughly because it comes loose and causes more problems than the rust did!

Oh yes, that's the reason I have a spare ten gallon one, because I went to the bigger one too.

I decided to DA the body. Or just start to clean up 81 years of exterior crud. Man I think all that crud came of of the car and went on me. I looked like a coal miner afterwards but the car looks cleaner and I did not find any filler or major body damage thankfully...John

John when do you figure you'll get to wiring also what are you running for headlights anything special

 

I gotta finish up the steering, then blow the whole thing apart this winter and finish welding up the lower portion of the frame brackets, then clean, paint, and re***emble the frame and components. Then start on the body work and paint on the car itself, and when this is done. Put it all together again. Then I can start wiring, hopefully in the late winter or early spring. As far as the headlight I will be using they are the early guide style 682 j
I will be converting them over to 682 c style cuz I like the turn signals on top of the buckets. here is a few pics of the styles I am talking about. Thanks... John

Thanks. Found a storage home for the 51 ford for a year. So I now have room to spread out and finish up the 28 chevy this winter. Now I have to blow it all apart for final finish and hopefully next spring or summer I'll get to cruise it...John

 

So next summer you're gonna drive it down to TN so I can see it in person, right?

 

Now that would be a great road trip. Might have to plan on some stops along the way at different shows, and slow cruising the old 2 lanes is my idea of fun.

Hi cactus. I haven't worked on the 28 for about a month, and I have put the 51 shoe box in storage for the winter. I am just gathering parts for it, got a 302 ford engine, c6 trans, s10 front suspension with dropped spindles, 373 posi rear S10 rear axle, and a rear mandrel bent frame stub. But the 28 will be first and still shooting for summer completion on it. I am working on a 35 3 window chevy for a customer right now. I think it used to be a stock car not much straight metal on it. I have been keeping an eye on your truck and it is looking real good. here is a pic of the 35 chevy..John

 

Cool. I guess you gotta pay the bills right. That coupe is sweet. As my late dad used to say, I wish I had that and he had a feather up his a$$, we'd both be tickled!

 

Man chevys must be everywhere in colorado haha. What all you gotta do to that 35 before you get back on yours?

 

Some one installed the flooring in it without sizing the door pockets So I had to cut it loose and install the doors properly. After I restructured them with steel. Then the trunk was from a master and this one is a standard. Had to make a new pocket and interior drip rail so it would fit. Then all new metal structure for the trunk hinges to connect to. A new firewall cap. Now it's on to the roof area and that will take awhile. Most of it has to be cut away and repaired with new. As I said before it might have served time on a stock car track by the looks of it...John

 

Dang no fun I'd just as soon start from scratch then have to fix somebody elses mess

Thanks. I took a look at your 51 delivery and would like to have it also. I had a 51 hardtop awhile back that I was gonna clone a colorado car called double ugly. That ran around back in the late 60s early 70s, dark hot rod grey, killer small block, 4 speed, with a g***er at***ude. I still might if the deal comes up. As for your delivery. I went to a indoor car show prolly about mid to early 60s and there was a 51 delivery bright orange. I could not get my eyes off of it. I really think that is when my interest in early iron hit me...John
