Don't you just love the stupid questions people who try to be car guys ask about parts for sale. I tell them ask the guy who is building their project what they need before they ask a stupid question. for instance I have set of big block chevy headers people call and say are they round or square port? you tell the that don't matter unless they ar installing a carb. on the collectors. duh

There are actually beginners to this hobby of ours. If you were fortunate enough to never have never asked a stupid question in your life, you are quite fortunate.

I'm just getting into this hobby at nearly 40 years old. I bought my body and parts from a 90+ year old man. I asked a lot of questions that he probably thought were extremely stupid, and I said some things that I thought were correct, only to have him show me different. Not one time did he act like I was an idiot, on the contrary, he seemed to enjoy having me around, asking questions and talking cars.

He's a cool dude. How are people going to remember you?

There are no stupid questions, we all started out knowing very little. Attitude.........now that is somethig that effects things, both questions and answers.

  7. Sounds like you and the 90 year old would be enjoyable to spend some time with BSing about cars. Thanks for sharing your positive attitude!

yeah, from reading your post..stupid questions are really rampant..huh brown smoke!!!

  10. I know now that I have asked "stupid" questions before....maybe not automotive related, but say computer help as an example, I am sure the computer dude, probably thought my questions were "stupid" but that was not my intention to annoy him....I just didn't know, now I do.

There are no stupid questions but there is no shortage of stupid answers typically from some self appointed "guru" that wants people to think he's clever. It's been my experience that the smart ass answers usually come from people that know a little and the well thought out, courteous and to the point answers come from people that really know their stuff. Perhaps that's because the exceptionally knowledgeable people got that way by asking questions and learning from others. Remember, if you're self taught, you learned from someone that doesn't know anything.

  13. I found out when young that I should keep my mouth shut and listen, let the other guys talk and absorb as much as I can. That would still be a good thing for me to do!

I always ask questions. Its better to ask and then do it right the first time then to keep your mouth shut screwing something up and making yourself look like an idiot. If you asked questions it at least looks like your making an attempt to try!

I called a header manufacturer the other day about buying some flanges for my header fab. He asked me round or square port....

I should have called him stupid.

all my big blocks have kind of square looking exhaust ports, and they all are using headers that have round holes at the header flange.

I love "stupid questions", I get to spread a bit of my feeble knowledge. And the best part is when I give a wrong answer, I get to learn something when someone more knowlegable corrects me.

I have a gallon of "prop wash" and 9 feet of "fallopian tube". A quart of photographic "focusing fluid" and I turn my flourescent tubes 180 degrees every six months so the electricity flows both ways and they last longer. I sand clockwise because they sand counterclockwise in Oz. Just like the water in the drain. Otherwise the job wont be hemispherically correct.

I had a guy come up and visit me.
He was tryin' to be a car guy,,man he was givin it all he had.
The converstation started about his recent brake job and "How he had to replace the (OT) front brake pads and then later move on to the Master Cylinder. That's because the M/C goes out at the same time he replaces the pads,or a little there after".
    I'm like
    wtf?
He's like "yeah the M/C goes out when you replace them and you need to replace it too".
I'm thinkin good thing the M/C is hanging on studs on the firewall.
Any way he goes into details of how he beats the Caliper Pistons in with a hammer so he can get the pads in there.
    WOW.

  24. Well, you know your big block Chevys, that's for sure. Your a hot rod super star. I've never claimed to know shit about shit, but what does the carb have to do with the headers again? I want to be a super star too.

the carb thing is because there are rectangular and oval intake ports on big block chevys, and it matters which heads you have when you're shopping for an intake manifold. And the carb bolts to the intake manifold.

That is a good man and I love to talk with people like that because they will tell you anything you want to know .
What ever happened to all the nice , courteous people when somebody had a question about something and got an honest answer without someone calling them stupid or laughing or saying they are dumb for asking ?

"loburban" , People with your attitude are assholes ! How the hell did you learn anything ? You had to ask somebody a STUPID question by your terms or are you so damn smart you know everything ?

First off I love when people ask me question on anything that they don't know about cars ! I will tell them anything they really want to know or how it was done or any other question they might have . How else would they know or learn ! Did you ever consider that they are thinking of building something and want to know what they are getting into before they start . How about the young first car owner with his or her car that doesn't know how to change their own oil ?

There are no stupid question ONLY the assholes that think the question are stupid ! "loburban" You need a new line of work where people don't have to ask a smart guy like you a stupid question ! How stupid was your question you had to ask someone about a car or engine ?

  29. Yeah, he had me fucked up with "the that", I have honestly never seen those two words put together in that order before. I was thinkin' maybe he had a new spin on the english language or some shit. If I was trying to make someone else out to be an idiot, I would make damn sure I had my own ass covered.

People ask questions because they are interested in what you know, you should be flattered!
