Graffitti 32. 1984

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by seesko, Dec 2, 2009.

  1. It's not an aesthetic value it's a feeling you get when you watch that movie. Also back then a lot of deuce coupes looked just like that, today they are what some thinks they looked like back then. I know I was around back then and high tech and air bags were no such thing you did it out of a junk yard and not a magazine. Rags

    Best description I've seen yet.

  3. No biggie to me. I've seen prettier too but it's still cool. :)

  4. Very well said....I agree. When I was in my very early teens I didn't know any better I just thought it was the coolest coupe on the planet. Older and wiser now I know its short comings, but it still has the cool factor, just because it is what got me hooked on hot rods.

I was a little kid when I saw the car sitting at Universal Studios with a bunch of other movie props....My dad filmed it...got it on VHS somewhere.

Definitely not the best looking '32 of all time.....but probably the most influential.....my dad sat me down and made me watch the movie after we saw the car at universal.....I don't know too many people who first watched the movie and didn't think that car was badass.....That's all it took for me...saw the car in person, then watched the movie....young impressionable kid...that was it...hooked for life....from that day I always wanted a hot rod.

  6. i think its the best looking piss yellow/puke green 32 out there!!:D

  7. I still remember the firs time I saw AG, my family has been in Hot Rodding since before I was born and I first saw the movie when I was in my teens. My first thought was, 'why the hell haven't I seen this before??'.
Yeah Milners coupe has the uglies but I appreciate it for what it did in the revival of the Hot Rod around the world and if I had the $$ and opportunity, hell yeah I'd own it!
    Doc.

  8. Ha Ha .... "field car"
I"m with low squire on this one
And as far as "like a girlfriend", the ugly ones try harder and usually more fun.

I will always like it. True, the proportions seem to be out of whack. Mainly the grille treatment. Yet, it never fails to garner attention. The film touched a lot of folks in many different ways, as did the car. As was stated, it drew in people who had never seen a hot rod and sent them looking for one. The muscle car era had almost killed hot rods and as they began to suffer due to emission standards and high insurance rates, this car and the film got guys to dig out the hot rods they had stored away or sold. Perfect? No. Iconic? Most definantely.

Thanks for posting the pics. Now I'm going to watch the movie.

Maybe my favorite flick of all time....Lucas really worked hard at "getting it right" where most flicks of this genre are pretty lame...one part in the script always puzzled me though and I guess now is as good a time as any to ask:
    HOLSTEIN
Uh-huh. Milner, the reason I stopped
you was because the light on your
    license plate is out.
    (opening his ticket
    book)
I'm gonna have to cite you for that.
And Milner, the front end of this...
    this... this thing you're driving
    looks a little low.

    JOHN
Oh, no sir. It's twelve and a half
    inches. Regulation size. Now, it's
been checked several times. You can
check it if you like, sir.

ok I hope i don't end up looking stupid here but was there any such similar law regarding front end height and if so where were they taking this measurement.......spreader bar ?

I don't really care what others say. That has always been, and always will be my number one dream car.

  14. Maybe it was just the movie that made me love Milners duece. Oh hell, who am I kidding, that is still one hell of a HOT ROD. I like it a lot. That wicked black 55 really stood up the hair on my back! I know you real old timers will always choose the 32, but for me the 55 is the hot ticket. I can also say the black 55 wouldnt be in my top 75 of all time 55 Chevys. But it will always be a cut above just because of its movie fame and influence on me.;)

The grille is the probably the thing that gets everyones attention.

Take the movie history away from that car and you would be hard pressed to find a rodder anywhere that wouldn't change the grille if they owned it.

    Just my 2 cents.................

  16. That's what I say. What up wid dat. It is doo dah but I called it home for 13 years. Great place to cruise and race. :)
That's where they built the plane that dropped the bomb that ended WW2:D

I always hear " All them 32 Fords look the same", This one is different, distinctive and memorable in few really minor ways. It probably would be more "acceptable" if it were black and had a stock grille/shell but certainly would not be as distinctive or memorable. I think its perfect!

How can anyone say anything bad about Wichita, I was born and raised here and don't want to live anywhere else especially Leotard....Leonard Texas. Wichita has a great custom car history. The K.K.O.A. started here in 1980. Starbird and the Titus bros. but back to topic I love Milner's Coupe but would not build a replica. I'm more of a 3 window man myself.

I've never understood why everybody likes that thing.

  27. You guys find the weirdest things to complain about. That coupe is Iconic. Whether you like the car or not, it's the most recognizable Hot Rod EVER. Even non car folk know the car because of the movie.

Face it, it will always be the Bitchin-est car in the valley, the others might as well get a wheelchair and roll themselves home.

  28. LMAO and well said.
If not for American Graffitti and the Piss Yellow Deuce there might not be any HAMB. :(
I know it was the spark that started Back to the 50's here in Minnesota in 1972. :)

  29. It was a great town to grow up in. I like Minnesota (except for stinkin winter:mad:) . Not sure if I could move back but there's a lot of things about Wichita I miss.

I bet most of the planet couldn't,t give a rats about it, I,m staggered that a hot rodder would say they don,t like a hot rod,..........It might not be your cup of tea but surely you must appreciate it.. very weird
