great journey thru hot rod history-in a rough time for this country you can feel their love for the hobby. thank you. tom
Wow! Keep them coming, thanks for taking the time to post...don't know most of these cars, but think that the lakester top left is Bill Warth, before he sold it to Stuart Hilborn...the tank in the middle is Earl Evan's (anyone know what happened to it?), and I think that the Stan's Auto Painting roadster is Stan Betz...
Oh my...what a beautiful roadster. What is the color? I'm diggin the black 32 frame. As if a guy just threw on the body and kept the deuce color on the frame. BITCHIN'
Charles "Scotty" Scott's AV8 Tattersfield belly tank Fred Carrillo & Bob Betz lakes roadster, Stan Betz maybe Bob's relation. Later owned/run by Fugle & Stecker (called the Black Widow). Now owned by Jim Lattin
The Stan,s paint roadster is Spade Carrillo,s first roadster that he built for Bonneville in 1949.Is owned now by Jim Lattin. This car is not to be confused with the later Carrillo roadster(HRM cover july 1952) which is now being restored by Frank Morowski from Maryland. BTW Still looking for 16" Indy tires for the restoration
You're right. Bob Betz was partners in the 2nd Carrillo roadster, No.17 Yellow roadster. Minus Betz name in my post the linage was collect. July '52 cover car was bought by Ralph Potter of Ralphs Muffler Shop in Indy. Ralph had previously sponsored Bob Hamke's roadster.
Jimmy You are correct. I,ve actually been in the garage where the 1952 car was built and the garage where the Spalding Bros car was built is right around the corner in Monrovia Ca
That would of been awesome, I've seen the pics of both garages in mags and Books and would love to see them first hand one day. Do you any pics of Albata club members cars?
Thank you! mainly after pics of these Bob Rufi mod or streamliner Ralph Schenck mod or streamliner Chuck Spurgin Roadster pre and/or post war Bob Giovanine mod (I believe he ended up with Rufi's one man modified body). I haven't seen enough good shots of Rufi's one man to be sure.
Cheers Steve! I got a large cropped print of that photo I got off ebay, PM me your email and I will send a high res jpeg
The print I have is at least 30 years old. It was common for friends to have copies made from the originals. :edit: it is a 10"x8" print The cropped version of this photo was used in Hot Rod History Book 1. The chapter on the Spalding brothers.
