This 42 or 41 wichever it is,it is just FUC**NG unreal!!!!!!!! It just gets me so fired up!!! Just look at the lines of that car.In the(time magazine) photo of the car indoors you can really see the beauty.

 

Should this thread just be called 40's customs ? I know its titled 40 period correct customs but.... most of these pictures are all real pics from back in the days of when these customs were built, not cars that were built today and trying to capture the 40's era. I was just confused thats all .

I always wonder what became of Gil Ayala's 40 Merc.That would be one hell of a find!

 

I have often wondered that many times, I can just imagine what it would be like to find that car today, there was so much work done to that car it just blows me away.

WOW! I have only seen the birds eye view of the car. I really like it with the top up and the hood on!

 

Since I don't see an acetylene bottle, I'd say that's an acetylene generator. That what ya' talking about?

I love how the front tire radius matches the front wheel radius on these cars. Lowered with restraint - looks so nice.

Olive Hill Garage co-owner Art Lellis built this 1939 Ford for himself.
He sold the car to an actor, and also Tony Nancy once owned the car.
The car is still around today, although it now has a 1940 Ford front end grafted on after the car was in an accident, and the original front was damaged...

Here are some 40s built '36 Fords:

George Barris' 36 Coupe. He completed this build in 1941:


He traded the coupe away for this Roadster:




Gene Garret's Roadster built by Harry Westergard, Harry began this build in 1943:








Jay Everett's Sedan, this photo was just recently featured in an issue of Rod & Custom. Jay would later go on and build the über cool Astra Coupe:



Jim McKinley's 3Window Coupe, Jim bought this car in 1948. I'm not sure when he restyled it, but this photo dates back to 1955...



William Yee's Convertible, restyled by Bertolucci. Not sure when he did the job, but the photo looks old:



And now an east cost custom. Ray Giovannoni's 36 Roadster. This photo was published in HRM November 1948...still waiting for Ryan to tell us more about the whereabouts of this car as he teased us about it a while ago...

 

Neil Emory's 37 Dodge. Neil built this between 1940-41. The car was fit with a Carson Top. Beautiful car!!

 

X2 I'm more of a hot rod guy but that car is damn perfect...

And another favorite of mine from this collection (and taken at the same lot) is this 36 Ford chopped sedan... To bad the telephone pole is sitting in the way... But everything about this car is looking so right. 41 Chevy headlights molded in, smooth hood sides...Makes you wonder why nobody builds one based on this....




Molded in splashpan, and rear fenders. even the spare tire cover looks perfect on this one. And the 47 Ford bumpers on the 36 Ford... perfect

I'm not sure when this '39 was built, but it sure fits the style of the car on this thread. I took this photo at Island Dragway in the spring of 1961.
Does anyone have more info on this classic sectioned convert?
