To me, that's the epitome of what a chopped merc is. Even if it was a POS with a quickie chop and stock flathead.

I remember Cobra being pretty cool....until I saw it recently. Yikes.
    Nice car. Ugly hood scoop.

thread official hijack notice: an equally cool Merc figures heavily in one of my favorite Eastwood flicks, Thunderbolt and Lightfoot; that one appears totally stock but gets the living shit driven out of it, and wrecked near the end of the flick. hijack over, go back to your seats.

but the Thunderbolt and Lightfoot Merc had something no other bad assed movie Merc has ever had, that awesome huge freaking cannon in the trunk:D you can have superchargers, nitrous, Uzi's, cases of PBR, whatever, but you aint badass until you have a cannon in the trunk that will blow holes though a bank vault. even then, the black Fury with the exhaust running into the interior and the trunk full of white rabbits was cooler.

  4. I believe it was a Browning .50 cal machine gun, not a cannon, but it's been a while since I saw it. Plus George Kennedy with the broomhandle Mauser. And the rabbits were weird, still never figured what that was all about.

Eddie told the whole story on another site.Eddie suppiled the mercs for the movie ,he made one Hero car for sly that was perfect and never in the movie. That was the one ripped off.The movie studio that shot cobra never paid him for the cars.Sly never got insurance payment for the car as he wants it and has been looking for it all this time. The one eddie rebulit was in a junkyard with 2 others .The one he rebuilt was the one that was shot in the trunklid. the other 2 were beyond repair.1 is at Hard rock cafe new york. The car should stay just as it is.Scoop and all .There is enough belly button mercs out there.

    Oerlikon 20 mm cannon...

I had to use wikipedia to find this out! Still the coolest bank heist on film, in my opinion:D

My favorite part was Jeff Bridges "test driving" the Firebird:p

About a year and a half ago, my wife and I were looking at homes here in Orange County on a street named Circular Panorama, in Orange. We met a guy who called himself "Big Daddy." He has a huge home overlooking OC and the ocean. Anyway, he opened his garage and he had a couple of Mercs in the garage. He told me the black Merc was from the movie Cobra. I called BS right away but he showed me the inside where Stallone signed the dash. He said it was one of many that he built for Stallone for the movie. Anyway, the car is here in Orange, CA. Here is the website for Big Daddy. He is a super cool guy. He brought my wife and I in his house for a few hours showing us stuff. He called George Barris and we spoke to him on the phone. Check out the website.

I think the guy was legit.

  8. That's the guy from Ultra Limo. He used to live here by me. That Merc is his,not Stallones. He was at Boyd's service Here's a pic of him leaving...

    1) Does he have the title? If so, i would think the matter would be settled quite simply.

He then could (and should) still sue; i would never try to use someone's elses name/fame (in general) for my own personal gain.

what bugged me most about "Cobra" was the apparent inability of the blown smallblock to catch a Dodge Aspen or outrun bad guys in POS renta wrecks, and the juxtaposition of a badass cop who obsessed on catching criminals with the ultra-cool hot rod Merc.... aside from Starsky, what cop had time for a hot rod, and the intensive maintenance they involve?
Cobretti never gave any indication he KNEW the car, he was all too willing to beat the shit out of it..... maybe it was a seized car from a bust?

Yeah, just like Magnum PI. His Ferrari couldn't outrun k cars with 4 big goons in them.

Your 'seized property' idea is pretty good. It's kind of like Miami Vice for blue collar workers. But then Bullitt beat his car pretty good as well.

Me too gimmi, I hate cobra, it's like a dude calling himself switchblade and those scorpion window decals...but the Scorpions rock epic. I hate the insane clown posse but they have a cool "crazy guy running with a butcher knife" sticker. ..
I know whatcha mean, I had this buddy, he was a good guy but damn he was trendy. When he went hotshot car haulin' he bought a buncha gold chains and Birkenstocks and yuppie sweaters and when he got his cb he went by the handle cobra-kat and had this 2 headed panthersnake beast mural painted on the truck. I never said anything cuz he was having so much fun and it really wasn't any of my business but it was like fingernails on a blackboard to me when he was brandishing that cut.
It was a cool car and the movie wasn't THAT bad... It was pretty Hollywoody as in Versace

  26. Guess you should avoid this thread then, it was one of the three cars that inspired me to get mine.

    So.....does he have the/a title?

    2) Actually, i know a few police officers who have built up a few car projects quite successfully. But i see what you are saying; i think the torino used by starsky+hutch was basically a stocker---so he probably didn't have to screw with it too much. But i understand what you are saying, plus cops don't get paid much, so how can they afford the parts?

  28. Found this on Chuck Zitos web page it also had pics of stallone signin the dash........

maybe when you post people want to jam ice pics into their eyes for reading your bullshit. who gives a fuck what people like and dont like and why do you feel you need to jump on their asses for what is their rightful opinion? you are part of the problem on this forum.

  30. I heard some where that the merc that was used in gone in 60 seconds was the cobra car, or maybe just one of the cars used in the cobra movie? anyone?
