i'm building a stainless frame here http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=267054 After a lot of consultation with someone that knows their way around metal i used 4" x 2" x .125" 316L, This resists weldrot and brittleness.
Never heard that one either. And as far as "safe but cheap",,,,,,,,,, well, Louie is neither of those!
I'm not saying it can't happen but I've not encountered that either and have run stainless fasteners for quite a few years now, A little stud lock wouldn't go amiss.
I talked to my metal guy today and stainless is not a problem. What i need now is someone to mandrel bend the rear rails. I would like someone close if at all possible. Thanks for the help.
Louie have you spoke to anyone about bending the stainless yet, i ask as i spoke to my man about it as i originally wanted to bend the kickup on mine but he suggested cutting and Tig welding would be better. I will ask further today for you.
I talked to a company named bendco here in Houston and he said he could roll it to as small as a 24'' diameter. I was thinking of giving him a piece and letting him roll it if i can't have it mandrel bent the way i want. I need to find out if bend will have a different effect on the steel than rolling.
