Not that old, was new in the early 80's but gone now. Four Wheel Pop-Up camper on a Baja Mexico trip.
This is My 58 corvette and a picture of my son and his cousin enjoying some snacks and watching a movie in it. Going to restore it in the near future.Hoping to take the 36 and the trailer to Bonneville someday.
as stated elsewhere, there is a company in upland, calif. that is making a "teardrop" type once again.
My brother tells me that you can get the blueprints for the tear drops online. I haven't checked it out, but I've been wanting to build one for a while. Maybe with something to sleep in I could get my girl to come out to more events, yea right!! haha!
Not old, but a new one from Camp-Inn out of Wisconsin. I have put a lot of miles on it behind my 36. I love the design and the practicality it gives us for easy traveling.
This is Rommel. It is My old pick up Jack Costella gave me because it was so dead from years on the salt. It is stored at el mirage and has become the chuck wagon and crash pad for our time in the dirt........ It has really great ventilation.......the rockers are gone and you can see the road through the floor board. After replacing ALL of the brake lines she is pretty functional. Though another trip to bonneville may be the end of him.
Lippyp, You've GOT to rescue and rebuild that one at your parents place. I would be all over that in a heart beat. I've never seen one like it. Are they a common site over there? Frank
I drug one exactly like this one around in the 1980s behind my 34 Ford P/U. I never thought that I would use it again....now I wish I had never sold it. The guy that bought my first house wanted it so we wrote it into the contract.
Here are a couple of mine. All three of thies trailers were free for the asking the Scottie was the last one found and will be the keeper.
I just love the old trailers, when I saw Wes' Fireball out in the desert I thought that would be even better than My old Alaskan. Don't get me wrong, I still like the Alaskan, but it can be a pain to load and unload. A trailer would be nice, get to where you are going and unhook, then you have a car to drive around. I've also thought a Motorcycle trailer or rack on my truck would be nice, after all my wife is getting me a '56 Triumph for Christmas and that would go nicely with my '58 truck and '58 Alaskan.
this is the seventh teardrop we built. 1.5" of insulation, cold a/c and have a lot of fun pulling it. johnny
heres my teardrop it spent the last 25 years or so as a wood shed. Had no interior, windows or fenders. My new wife and I just took the 51 and teardrop on our honeymoon. 5500 miles in 3 weeks stayed in the camper about 50% of the time.
Spotted this one recently on the Hemmings classifieds: http://blog.hemmings.com/index.php/2009/11/19/hemmings-find-of-the-day-1938-curtiss-aerocar/ dan
Tin Can Tourists spring get together in Milford, MI, in '07. Pretty cool. The grey one is an International, built to pull the trailer it's still attatched to. A very talented guy from Ontario found them rotting in a shed, restored them and drives the wheels off the rig. It's fantastic! The Chebby is wearing it's original patina, but the mechanicals were freshened up enough to be driveable, it too was custom built for that trailer. I'm surprised to see Henry is trying to sell it. Brian
I've built 5 teardrops in the last 6 years. If you can build a plywood box you can too. Check out www.mikenchell.com/forums Free plans for many different trailers besides TD's and great people like on here.
Some of my favorites from the Rolling Times list of small trailer mfg. Not for the shape so much as the weight. I just bought this 48 kenskill from an estate in Redding,CA. The former owner was an old car guy, anybody recognize this teardrop or know the former owner? Gotta get some original wheels!
