    Here's some more Roth goodies....

his shop on Slauson in Maywood

    as it is today

even earlier in his career Ed was with Baron and Kelly here

    and how it appears today

this was painted inside the Maywood shop...I think it still there

this was one of Ed's catalogs...the circled one was my choice to have Ed make for me for my 11th birthday in 1961. My Dad drove me to the Maywwod shop, I remember it was raining and Ed was in the shop alone. He said "Hi kid, what can I do for ya?" So, I pointed it out to him in the catalog that I brought with me. Ed sat down and started to airbrush a white sweatshirt for me.

when he had the back finished, he said, "kid, would you like me to put your name on the front?"...of course I said. "yes".

he even put spiders on the front!!!!!!!!

and you no doubt recognize the shirt as being my avatar today

to me, Ed Roth was THE MAN...my hero, always was...cool guy

rest in peace, Ed and thanks for the memories !!!

Great story Doug. Man, a rainy Saturday in 1961 and dad takes you down to Roth's to have a sweatshirt made for your birthday. Too cool. And yes, I read in TRJ that the Roth airbrush art with the clear sprayed over it is still on the wall. Covered by shelves now or something like that--not accessible anymore. You'd think someone would chisel it out and take it to an auction...

I'll have to find my ad for Roth's "Tweedy Pie". It was in the Hot Rod Magazine classifieds for $2300. A guy here in town bought it...

We were all young then Doug. There's also Ed Newton, Suzanne Williams, Rick Griffin, Jim Brucker and Alton Kelley. Dave Mann with Ed in front of the banner. Anyone know who the guy with the tie is?

I remember riding in the Mustang. (no car seat) holding on the dashboard telling my Dad to hit it at every stoplight or straight away. The guy who bought the Mustang wrapped it around a tree. (totalled)

No, from what I've heard about him, I don't think he goes to parties.

The guy with the 'stache in Unkamort's last two posts is Oscar Kovaleski who Owned the Auto World model car company and I think, maybe, published the old Car Model Magazine in the sixties.
