Ya your right, it could be tougher, I dont have any kids.. I bet if I did I couldnt have half the stuff I do, you gotta make some sacrifices..
There is a house in Liberal Ks I would love to know the history on. From what little I was told the owner purposly built it with no straight and even surfaces. The roof lines droop, windows crooked, all intended. But it is in perfect shape, I'd love to see the inside. Unfortunately I don't have pictures. The best I can do is show you the address on google map then take a look on street view, its soo wild...the trees block alot 1390 N Cain Ave, Liberal, KS, United States
Here's ours, circa 1947. we rented it for 20 years, then bought it! 875 square feet. The debris on the ground is from re-building the top 9 feet of the brick chimney.I want to un-chop it someday...tear the roof completely off and put a steeper pitch on it to gain space upstairs and to insulate it better, but I don't want to screw up the architecture either... Built the garage about 4 years ago.
My house at the moment we are renting, but it is built in the 50's with nothing updated. We're saving money now for our 50's dream home. Either way, here are some pics of the interior. Besides cars, this is my other passion....vintage furniture.
Cool mid-century items 1955rairlane.......I would give nuts for that bar and shelf.......well maybe not.
My vintage house. Was built around the turn of the last century. Some of my friend's lovingly call this place the Hill Billy hell hole. Not sure why, maybe it is the random sheet metal and license plates nailed to the outside walls.....
Great I spent the last 20 years trying to upgrade my house so it looks all fancy and all new furnishings and now we are going backwards, LOL well at least I can go back home to my parents 1850's farm house that was last updated in 1960's with a yellow kitchen and white steel cabnits and all the still 60's furniture. LOL going into mom's is like walking back into the 60's, Now My wifes aunt live in old vegas and she moved out there back in 1960 and nothing has ever been update there either, she still raves about her new microwave with the diel's on it. You guys should check out the "GOODWILL" stores for this old stuff, I see this stuff all the time come in and even get tossed in the dumster if it don't sell, One of the worker was playing with this old radio with the record player on top and glass on the side of it look like from the 50 or 60's and he could not get it to work and the magr. said to toss it out So I helped him to get it working and they put it out on the floor. Sad to see this stuff get tossed out like that. Here's a pic.
Pics from halloween last year. Built in 1945. Garage space sucks but I like it. Pics of the den are old.
I haven't figured how to post a picture yet (but i can change my avatar) so here goes..... I also have a panoramic photo taken in early 1915 showing my house (at it's present location) on national old trails road (new york to los angeles) at what was the east end of kingman az. (route 66 wasn't established until late 1926.)
We are in escorw again, but this house isn't that old. We just got tired of the search in our perameters so we setted for this nice house built in 1980. The plus side it has a nice quartz rock fireplace and an awesome view. The garage was put to the back of the house so it has the view too! Only 2 bedroom, 1650sf, 2.5 bath. The half bath is in the garage. So hopefully all goes well and we move in by Dec. 15th. I'll have better pics when we move in, before the kids mess it up. But for now here's pics from the listing.
Purple, that house is just crying out for a Prarie Style re-do. Cool. I feel your pain on the searching within parameters thing. It's toughto find an old house with character that a bank is willing to finance. They all want perfection these days. -Dave
Getting closer...Pest inspections 1 and 2 and hardly any repairs needed. We are already thinkin about what to do to retro it. For the kitchen we've fallen for some of the tiles from Heath Ceramics in Sausalito CA. Still make the 50's designs. Wife is thinkin thier triangle one for the backsplash and standard squares for the counter. The bathroom is on the left. A big work sink. The Quartz fireplace, has a couple of shelf rocks. Gonna have to paint the vents. Kitchen needs work but is still useable as is. Built in dresser in the master. Wife wants to remove it so we can use our mid mod dressers.
Does the tile place have a web site? I'm a tile setter and always keep my eyes open for more places to buy good tile
It's one year too late to be a HAMB house, but we're trying when we bought it: now: Our vintage furniture consists of a 1950's red leather couch my grandfather got from a dentist friend's office when they "upgraded" in the 1970's but I can't find a picture of it anywhere. The goal is to expand the home and add a garage, updating the existing house into a more craftsman style fashion.
They have very nice stuff but it doesn't come cheap. Nice house you have, by the way. I'd consider a move up north if I could figure out a way to make a living up there. You can get a lot more house for your money than down here in the Bay Area. The property taxes are murder too.
Built 1925, Have spent a good 5 years undoing alot of the 1970's to it...to bring it back to this condition. Luckily, alot of what was original to the house was still in and around the house, windows, moldings etc...
Yes they are, but since you are near Sausalito you can go in and by 2nds and left overs at discount. There have been many people that spend the weekends here and work there. House prices went too high for this area and have dropped a LOT. The house we are buying at $179,900 a few years ago sold at $330,000.
Not mine, but one I got to see this weekend in Barrington IL. Built in 1968 (a little past the HAMB cutoff) by an architect for his own family. The architect was a one time apprentice to Frank Lloyd Wright, which show in many of the details. The house is huge, 5000+ sf, with 5 brs, 4 fireplaces, indoor pool, passive solar heating in the floors. It has a pagoda-style roof with 3 spires, all skylighted. This is the sunken living room, which wraps around one side of the house... the bas relief divider encloses a massive fireplace The center of the house, with kitchen, another sunken living room, and the indoor pool. All living area dividers/doors are smoked glass. Master bedroom wraps around another side of the house, under a pagoda. Also has a with a grotto-style shower and bathroom open to nature (house is on secluded 10 acre lot)
Jeezus, Zenor You get to see some cool places ! I prolly couldn't live in a place like that, but I sure as hell appreciate the path taken by the architect and builders. Homes are as interesting as cars once you get a little "student of architecture" in your blood. Thanks for showing these great places.
I wish this one was on my property. Spotted this on highway 127 in Ohio. Don't know the year but all the houses were early 1900's.
Heres my house Built in 1951. Pictures show the front and rear as well as the back patio. We just finished completely rehabing with new windows, roof, sandblast & restucco and new brick work. It just right for the two of us. I added 3 pictures of the garage, my 56 Buick wagon and my 65 Chvey truck daily driver are shown.
