The Odd Couple was piloted by Walt Stevens. SBC in the front, 392 Chrysler in the back. Car won top gas eliminator at both the 71 Winternationals and Bakersfield meet in March of that year. Low 7's at 200 plus

At Doug Kruse's 1st annual Professional Dragster Championships (PDA) held at LIONs, the 'Train showed up with experimental Goodyears that put it in the 7.30's, an unheard performance for any gas car, and times that would have earned him a spot towards the bottom of the 32 top fuel class field and/or top of the 16 car back show. The car was almost smokeless in a time where roostertails of somke were still the norm.

Fred Hurst produced a series of gassers whose attention to construction detail rivaled a then 1st class funny car. His World Championship winning 68 Cuda was one of my favorite drag cars of all time. I saw it on TV but one time, when it won at Tulsa via ABC Wide World of Sports, I think. It spotted Bill Grumpy Jenkins A/MP 68 Camaro a good second and a half and still caught him on the top end.

The Juggers Racing team is still alive and well. And still has great drag and Bonneville cars.

  9. Here's some more of my "snapshots" from the early 60's. As with the first groups, these were all taken at Indy, York, Island, Cecil County, Atco and Flemington.
I was contacted by the fellow who now owns the Gene Moody '55 Chevy down in Arizona. Having folks find some of their cars history makes this all worth while.
    Enjoy....

  10. Top left is a young Bobby Langley in the staging lanes at Indy.
Third row center is the Frantic Four at a match race at Island.
Fourth row center is Jack Chrisman in the Mickey Thompson Twin Pontiac at York US30.
If anyone can ID some of the dragsters without lettering, I would be very happy to know.

  11. Last bunch for tonight. I felt it necessary to post some of the pit chicks who were also in motion. I'll have more race cars tomorrow.
Left and center in the top row is the Greek during a match race at Island.
I believe top right is Tommy Ivo at the US Nationals.

In this set, the center photo second row, Ivo is shown racing the Valley Home Service dragster...was a Fuller car, blown Chev, beautiful dark blue color...

Anyone know what happened to it? I always wondered until a pic showed up (on this site, I think) of the remains of it, looked like a really bad crash at San Fernando at the top end.....anyone know what happened and if the driver survived?

Just thinking... if this Cool Kat would have thought to have tacked on a licence plate
on the front of that value cover he'da been street legal!! "No officer, I was not speeding. Just heading to the Drive Thru for a Six-Pack."
