I'd have to rig the F100 up with oil slick, smoke screen, disappearing license plate, ejection seat... oh what that was James Bond. :D

I won't have a car ready, but I'll ride shotgun or follow as a chase/support vehicle with my van.

We did that here in germany.
Avtually a simple idea. 500miles, 4 check points, run what you brung, no rules others than be at all checkpoints.
Checkpoints were simple gas stations, and to proof you´ve been there you had to buy something or take some gas and keep the bill.
    Lots of fun.
Actually it doesn´t really matter if you have the fastest car on big distances, more important to dirve constatly fast and have a good navigator.
And what earlier been mentioned about bias ply tires.
Friend of mine regulary floors his Hemi Powered T model Roadster on the german Autobahn with Coker BiasPly tires. He often runs constant 150mph+ for longer periods. Some of the profile flew off but the tire was still intact;-D
Swiss friend ttold me BF Goodrich are better...

    Not really.....500 miles???
Not even close to the 2,818 miles from NYC, NY to LA with only stops for fuel.

What you've described is what we refer to around here as a Poker Run or Reliability Run. Something a club or group of pals would do on a weekend day for fun.

LOL, some of us drive 1200 miles just to hang out with friends for the weekend, then drive back. The Cannonball is about length, and everyone knows size matters. :D

They are taking 15 days to get there and the whole route is preplanned. Not exactly non-stop Cannonball style like were talking about. ;)

I figure 480 gals of gas for the complete trip. The 40 would go as is.

Yeah I kinda thought about all the stuff I'd add or do, then figured I wait to long and just run it like it sits...

I'm in! There is only one rule: there are no rules. Not only will we drive them like we stole them; we'll be driving like we're running from the law. Wait, we probably will be.:D:cool:

You have no idea. I drove 1200 miles from Raleigh NC to Joplin MO in about 18 hours solo, with a stop for a 2 hour nap. That's across 7 states all of which are probably larger than Germany as whole. I then drag raced, or at least attempted to, my car while I was there. Only got 3 runs. I then repeated the drive home without the nap. I got a 86 in a 55 that luckily got knocked down to faulty equipment. I pretty much had my foot in her the whole way. It was definitely not cruising. Give me a co-driver and a radar detector, maybe some GPS and I'm ready to go.

And I looked good doing it. :p

Easy to say, harder to back up.If the calls go out, I'm sure you could get a ride, if you really wanted!

But just remember, excuses won't cut it. One winner, and a whole lot of excuses is what I forsee.

Oh, and a whole lot more excuses as to why some(read MOST) didn't run in the first place!:D

I just finished this book, and it really made me think.

It's easy to say "I'm in", but has anyone really stopped to think about this? Not only are we talking about recreating an iconic event, but we are talking about being part of one!

It's doubtful that this race would ever happen. If it did, I wonder if the participants would realize the importance of representing the race the way it should be, and not as a Sunday 'cruising' event?
