I found a 1953 Hudson Hornet all original sedan with the flat 6 cyl with factory twin carbs. The car is 98% rust free. Its not running but complete. Does anyone know if this car is a desireable one? It is a four door. She looks like a led sled without any mods.I dont mean to sound ignorant ,but the net only has alittle info about the car. There arent many for sale. Any info would be greatly appreciated.
Hudsons are way cool, they have great lines, they look top chopped from the factory. Here is a pic of a 1952 model I built some years ago. I did have original running gear when I first built the car, but swapped to a 350/350 combo and Ford rear. All I can say is go for it!
That car is no good at all. I suggest you pull the engine, (remember to include the aircleaners) and send it directly to me for my 34 hudson sedan. I will PM an address and will send a postal M.O. Lippy
Be sure and pull the fenders and look real good at the perimeter frame. These things are known for rusted and rotted frames. How do I know? I have a '50 Hudson Pacemaker Coupe and had to find a donor unibody which took me a year and a half to find. They do have a great lead sled look to them and if it has the Twin-H carb set-up, you will be envied by many. A lot of good info at cl***iccar.com forums as well as around here. Think about joinging the National and Local Chapters of the Club and there will be a wealth of info and parts help for you. Membership dues are minimal and will pay for themselves in no time. Jay E. The ONLY thing that would make it better would be if it was a 2door sedan or coupe, or convertible, but Twin H Power is the ticket no matter what body. DO IT!
Thanks for your info , I'll look at the frame very closely. If all works out I will post pics of the Hudson when I get it home.
Whats not to love? They ride great, handle good, and stop good.Twin-H is just the icing on the cake! Course, I might be a little biased... Lots more info here: http://cl***iccar.com/index.php?option=com_jfusion&Itemid=62&jfile=forumdisplay.php&f=13
A Hornet with Twin H Power! Go for it as long as there are no frame issues, just remember when you get it " if you're going fast enough left you have to turn right"
I like the flow of the 4 door I say get it! My junk ´53 moredoor with TwinH and yes it was rusted at the frame http://public.fotki.com/Juppee/car_events/pick-nicks--meetings/powerpark-weekend-2009/p6130715.html http://public.fotki.com/Juppee/car_events/pick-nicks--meetings/powerpark-weekend-2009/p6130739.html
TwinH The Hudson Stepdown is an ICONIC car. As others have said the 1953 Hornet sedan looks to have a from the factory chopped roof. The styling of this car was done by folks who recognized safety and preformance with the addition of appointments normally found in the more expensive vehicles. The drive train of a Hornet will give you reliable perfomance with the special added knowledge that the 300+ inch engine powered Hudsons around the tracks to records that stand today. If you are looking for a place to find information about these fine cars... take a look at my site. A link appears below. As far as parts, repair of rusted pieces that is all shown on the site. I am a Hudson owner with 40+ years of driving experience. Hudson a really fine car indeed.
Buy it already! A Hudson four-door is not like the vast majority of other manufacturer's four door cars, in that the Hudson four door IS desirable! In many cases, a four-door '48-'54 Hudson Hornet, Wasp, Commodore, or Super in excellent condition brings far more money, regardless of condition, than other US makes. Obviously, the coupes, Broughams, and ragtops bring more yet, but there is absolutely NOTHING wrong with building a four-door Hudson. Especially if you have a 308 Twin-H engine! Nothing wrong with the 232 or 262 Sixes, either!
