as a kid ..thats a toughy they really didn't have " funny cars" when I was a kid , but when the hemi under glass came out I thought that was the wildest thing ever, and it was at the time, so who started it all my memory fails me there,

So even though i'm a chevy person first and foremost and always will be, i would have to say that Mickey Thompson's Grand am is my all time favorite funnycar; It was around when i was a kid, although i did not find out about it until recently. But i think it satisfies the question since it was around when i was a kid.

    2) i think the first funncar i followed was Don Prudhomme's army arrow; This was when i first fully realized what a funnycar was and, at the time, he was always in the magazines so i figured i should follow him, since he was getting all the press.

    3) i've always liked any vega funncar which is funny since the car got absolutely no respect on the street. I've also always felt that corvettes (C4) make good funnycars, although i can't seem to find any pictures of them.

  6. I remember watching Prudhomme set a new worlds record of 6.16 at the old CT Dragway and stood 10 feet from his crew in the pits while they completely rebuilt the engine in about 15 minutes. They had hurt it pretty bad making the record setting run and had to back it up in the next round to make it count. Simply amazing to watch those guys.

Don Schumacher's Wonder Wagon is one of my favorites,I think it was only raced in 1973,and lil' John buttera built a pair and both were crashed. Also Mike Mitchell"worlds fastest hippi" any of his cars with their crazy paint jobs.

i grew up at the drags. my dad was asst mgr at three tracks here in the arklatex area. one in each state actually. so for me, it's every one i ever saw.
the cars were cool but the people were the best. each one with a personality diffirent from the next.
sometimes that made for exciting exchanges between drivers. too bad its all about money these days.
and just so im not stuck on the fence: my favorite was raymond beatle in the blue max. he raced out of memphis for a while so i got to see a lot of that car. gene snow was right up there too. both really good guys from the view point of the child that i was.

  14. Jungle Jim all the way but I liked The Snake & The Mongoose too.

As a kid of the 80's as well as being one of the first toys i remember having, for me it was the snake's pepsi challenger pontiac. The bud king ford tempo of bernstein was also a favorite. I think of that car and always think of the terrible towel. My all time favorite though are the snake's army cars.

I just saw that car again for the first time in many years. Jim Green has bought it back and plans on restoring it.

Jungle's 76/77 Monza bodied cars were just the total shit. Johnny Loper's black Arrow from '78 was a stunning thing of beauty. The Max from that same era was about the most violent thing I've ever witnessed.
Cars that came before my time but I would have killed a close friend to see? Any of Sheldon Konblatt's stuff, Goesky's Roadrunner, The '69 Chi Town Charger, The American Bandstand twin engine Vette, The Bronco Buster, Gary Gabelich's rear engine 4x4 Vega, Dunn's RE car,...fuck, anything from 1965 and '66. I gotta stop...this could go on for days.

Kosty Ivanof,s "Boston Shaker". I heard that Kosty defected from East Germany by driving a car thru the baracade that seperated the two countries. Upon becoming a citizen he settled on the east coast.

  28. Any funny was good down here but I loved the pretty 'Cuda with bb Chev of Chris Sirinotis. Woulda loved to have seen 'Panic' Torana of John Lumb. He did tie- down burnouts- wierd- and the car also lost the roof at the deep end- wild.
This prolly don't mean much to those outside Oz & possibly NZ.
BTW we used to dig the tourists from U.S.A especially Gary Densham and a fellow named Brown was good fun- he was on the jet- powered stuff .
