You midwestern and eastern guys need to lookout for a 65 Comet next season. The "Whistler" [silver, straight axle] just landed in your area.John sold the Comet and it will be raced next season out there. The Comet has a couple photos in the latest Car Crap magazine[amazing as it is not a red 69 camaro] with the Cruizin Grand article.

Tell the guy who bought the Whistler to jack the rear end up a little, the car is super nice but it looks like it has a load in its shorts.

Yes,that is the Comet I was talking about.Muttley,I always felt the same, but Scrappy's car was always a hit with the nostalgia crowd! That Comet ran hard, was hoping to see it bust out a 9 second pass, but it would run 10.0s all day long. ROY.

Loved this car since the first time I saw it in the magazine. You did a great job on making it look right. I also learned about the studebaker front wheels about 2 years before it was in the magazine and how they were just right for for the Fords. Have you had a new best ET?

Seems there were alot of tales being made up for the all mighty $$$ back then. I didn't know the Ugly Duckling was another.

^^ I'm not sure if I've posted this before but I saw that car years ago and took a pic from a distance. I never got a close look at it and I hate that....I've read that it is really a one of a kind since it is so nice. Darn it!

That looks like "Fast Eddie" getting ready to blast off with his super clean original 65!!Ken,if you would keep your truck in one piece you could go get what the Comet needs!!!Reality always seems to get in the way of our having fun with our old junk!!! ROY.

Does anyone make a factory style ram-air hood for the '65? The Crites one is ok, but the other style is way cooler.

Muttley;as of right now nobody is repoping the late 65 style Cyclone hood. They were a design that carried over to 66-67 Comets,non-functional scoops, the hood inner structure blocks them off.I have seen them come up for sale on ebay from time to time. ROY.

Hmm, I didnt realize they were non-functional. I still like the looks alot more than the other hood though. I wonder if there is enough material underneath so it could be opened up and made functional.

I've seen those hoods go dirt cheap cuz people didn't really know how rare they are...then I've seen others ask a ton. Not many in betweens. I personally don't think they look that good but they are an oddity. I associate that style with the 66 Cyclones. Now here's a weird combo:

The one I saw went for real high dollar, don't know if I could cut on one that cost that much. Could you make one off a stock hood from fiberglass and modify it ?

Muttly and Judd;I have seen one that was made from a 66-67 Crites repo grafted to a 65.The Crites scoops are taller and functional to a point. The inner structure on a 65 is steel so it could be modified. You would need to make some way to seal the aircleaner to the hood.It would give you some cool air but I doubt any ram effect.I have some pictures of a 65 inside and out, that I will try to upload here.ROY.

Ken;that is a beauty, those are the pictures I was looking for!! If you look at the photo with the hood up you can see how the supports block the scoops.Like so many hood scoops-blisters of the day they were more show than anything. ROY.
