Just to let you know before the whining "traditionalists" call for this thread to be closed, that I really enjoyed these pictures. Thinking "outside of the box" was traditional in the fifties.
Not my work I'm afraid - they belong to this Dutch guy who seems to be a photoshop genius - although the black one with spoked Ford wheels is a genuine project he is moving on with and the pinstriped Dr Pepper van is real - runs a 4 cylinder GS engine. http://www.ollierkkila.com/ I've put these up because I think that (in Europe at least) the 2CV is a legitimate alternative for rodders - just as the Willys was and the hot rod style VW is becoming. I'm fully aware that some will never accept anything but an early Ford and I feel sort of like that myself (it's why I swapped the gl*** body on my Modified for a steel 27 tub) but it's another alternative way for those who can't get hold of genuine early Ford tin for whatever reason Not sure about the weird barn - seems very Monty Python/Terry Gilliam.
I hope this doesn't get shut down...those are some VERY Cool buildable rides! For the Green pick-up,you'll just have to cut up a Cortina for the bed...(and it has Fenders ) And the "Mad Snail G***er" reminds me of the punchline of that joke in Trading Places,"Look at that S car go"..
My dad has a few of them .Hes got a truckette,No 2 Cv 's .TRACTION ARE COOL .THE HISTORY OF THESE CARS ARE COOL.The molds for these cars were built here in Pa at the bud company in Philadelphia ,And he also visited Henry Ford about his idea to build a m*** produced Frontwheel drive and unitized car.Alot of stuff does resemble The Ford.Doorhandles for one example.My dad is reversing the procedure .Running 4 bangers and rearwheel drive ,These cars are starting to catch on.They sort of resemble a 34 ford.....
Real tough to build the traction motor compartment is only 16 inches at bottom,Toe kick is built into the firewall ,So v8 you would sit back behind door.You would have to push firewall back .Chevette suff works well for the convesion.Mustang motors also work well .4 cylinder........They are all 6 volt and he's converting it to 12 accept for guages.http://www.channel4.com/4car/media/100-greatest/03-large/28-citroen-traction-avant.jpg I dont know if the picture worked.......
Citroen actually offered the car with their own V8 and, as has been mentioned, there was a potential hook up with Ford that would have seen it with a Flathead (remember Ford Flatheads were later made under licence in France and used extensively by the French Army - fitted with a high speed reverse gear though ;-)).
I hope this does not get closed... this to me is a great tool for getting ideas.. no matter how ugly a car is.. it can be made to stand out in a crowd... I like those Pictures, I do like the Black 3 Window ... .
I too hope it doesn't get deleted. Whatever people think about the car there is no doubt that it was the absolute pinnicle of 1930's automotive thinking and design. It was like Ford making the Model B right into the 1990s. BTW - Andre Citroen was often called the Henry Ford of France.
The v8 car has never been found .I saw the article on this ,I don't think it ever made it into production ,The normalle is the wider car ,I have learned alot from my dad who is a citroen nut ,Unfortunately he told me everything,Citroen guys are purists ,If they knew what he was doing with them making them better,They wouldn't sell him any parts.He's up to 10 cars and all .None of them are on the road ,Was close on one Just has to do bodywork on doors and fenders ,And interior + paint.Then he built a full framed one that is gonna be a sedan delivery. Thats the back picture shot I took.I just hope he finishes one ,He enjoys the build............ I could have one but no room ,Roadsters and coupes go for big bucks..........
Yes - you're right. But a number were certainly made as prototypes but never made it into full production. There are stories of one being found every so often. The factory certainly fitted some Tractions with Ford V8's in the run up to producing their own V8.
very cool,I have always wondered if these could be rodded.Ive got a set of french C2V headlites Im cutting down for the piewagon (thanks Metalshapes)..these just might be traditional just not USA traditional
I only saw the article,As far as we know none have been found.We could be wrong.They are a neat car with alot of history.Tough to hide stuff Like brake lines and air conditioning lines ,If you keep it unitized . Alot of parts are available but oversees ,There are dealers in the Us also Also traction were basically the same body style up to 55 .
