I just picked that one and a 32 vicky up for my son. He loves hot wheels. I think that hot wheels never went anywhere. I do miss the days when they were all diecast construction, like whe I was a kid. The quality is still there. And they're still roughly the same price now as they were 20 years ago. I picked up the 2 I just mentioned at K-mart for 79 cents each. Can't beat that, and I'm sure that those little cars were a lot of our first introduction to hot rods and customs. Check out a cool story about me, my dad,and hot wheels here.

anyone else who is a big fan want to send some to crusin 32's little grandson?, i already sent a box, just type 7 year old with cancer into the search. the address is in the thread. I can tell he loves hot rods, and being inundated with hot wheels cars will probably help keep his mind off of his treatments. I have a soft spot for little kids who are sick, especially those that love cars. Having spent lots of time in hospitals as a kid, i can tell you from experience it*****s!!

About 6 years ago I sold my Hot Wheels collection for enough money to build an IMCA modified stock car. I raced a few years until the money was gone, sold the race car and now I'm building my street car. SO much cheaper. Hot Wheels are still cool though.

  9. For Toner 283 , the green two door sedan was out in 2006 by Vanilla Gorilla L.P. made in China obviously an off brand but cool and I haven't seen anymore of these around here. I bought it in California before I moved here at a Wal-Mart so good luck finding one. It looks like the one Jessie did, could be from that group. Rags

Wow, nice collection, plodge! Are the Skyshow Deora & open hood scoop Mustang genuine? Those two are worth a small fortune if they are! I ask because I've seen a few restored versions made up to look like originals.

Agreed that one of the *best* new castings is the Custom '53 Cadillac (seen below in 5 colors released so far). Another new favorite is the '59 Cadillac Funny Car.

That's one of my favorites from when I was a kid, except mine said "Matchbox Speed Shop" on the side,or something like that. I think i still have it,but it's in rough shape.

These are the cars I played with as a kid. The copper colored Cuda came in a track set I got for Christmas 1968/1969:confused: Still have the track and battery powered superchargers, the Cuda is all thats left of the cars.:(
If my fading memory serves me correct I had to mail order the "BOSS HOSS". The green "JET THREAT" was always the best car in a gravity race ,long, low, heavy, and stable. Oh to be 9-10 years old again, eating Captain Crunch and Wonder Bread toast for breakfast, washing it down with whole milk and back to racin HOTWHEELS! "Hey Doc, whaddya mean my blood pressure is to hi!"

Thanks Plodge, wish I had all the cars I thrashed as a kid! One of my coworkers [two years older than me] has three of the carrying cases that looked like a wheel plum full of his cars when he was a kid, he still has the little tin badges for most of them too:eek: He was much kinder to his toys than me. I have some new stuff dating back to the mid 80s to present. I try not to impulse buy this kind of stuff!

A MERRY CHRISTMAS to all. John

Imagine what you could buy if you had a rear-loader Beach Bomb to sell.

  23. I've been buying the $1.00 ones, the retro ones. My 2.5 and 4 yr old love them.

I showed this thread to my 10 yr old son and he loved the pics of the Hot Wheels. He wants me to take some pics of some of his Hot wheels.

At his school playground the other day he found a purple w/black roof El Camino. On the bottom it says Custom Fleetside and the year 1967 Mattel Inc, made in Hong Kong. It's got spring suspension. Of course redline wheels. Paint in good shape. Wonder what it's worth? Really doesn't matter, my son likes El Camino's and would not part with it. I will try and post a pic later.

This thread really brings back the memories. I had that exact El Camino. Mine was purple with Matte Black roof.
I was 10 when Hot Wheels first appeared. I was nuts about them. Before that I was a Matchbox collector. Forgot all about Matchboxes after seeing the Wild Hot Wheels cars.

I had a ton of them, but my younger brothers and cousins got into mine and lost and destroyed ALL of them. Would be worth a fortune now.

Some one said the first Hot Wheels were made in Hong Kong.
IIRC the earliest one were made in Hawthorne CA. Then manufacturing was moved to Hong Kong and then Taiwan.

Here are some pics my son took of his Hot Wheels.
The pic of the purple/black El Camino is of the classic old one he found.

Here's one I customized a while back. Body is Maisto though. Along with parts from a few other brands.
