Do any of you Central Fl Hambers recall a light blue Model A or 32 roadster that went by the name of "Big Mama" or "Big Papa" ? I saw the car on a trailer in my neighborhood in Winter Park in 68 or 69...I do remember it having a rollbar with a curved piece of metal or rod right where the drivers helmet would rest. I haven't been able to find any pictures anywhere, this was a nicely finished car as I remember (I was 8) nice paint and alot of shiny stuff.

Killer rake on that Plymouth push/tow car! They used the Plymouth wheelcovers on the trailer. Love how sanitary that roadster was.

It is a shame that so few roadsters survived the "golden era" of drag racing.
Anyone have a pic of Ivo's "Hatchet Roadster" ?

Word is that the car still exists as is hidden in a garage in north Austin.

  16. Here's a couple Model A Drag Roadsters I found on the History page of the Westside Auto Club website ...

... yet another pic of the Hughes Bros. 30-31 #55jr Roadster (circa '50s):

    ... and a '28-29 Roadster (circa '60s):

  17. What kind of suspension is he running there? It's definately a killer little pickup!

Just stumbled across the sibject of "Drag Roadsters" and this car incited me to respond. All steel, weighed a ton, by fuel altered standards, yet managed to win meets.

The Super Carrot of Conway and Hicks was yet another steel Highboy, that like the Thurmond Bros ran fuel, albeit mostly in the injected A/FA class. Car lifted, skatted and swayed down the track, yet still managed mid 8's!

I had the very HRM pictorial from where the Lovell Bros shot was derived from-I bought the book just because they were in it. This was one sweet race car that was very quick. It was an Irwindale regular
