I'm hoping to tackle some well-needed bodywork in 2010 on my 1962 Mercury Meteor. Although I do like the black primer it's been done before and I would like something different. For the time being I would like to go with a sealed primer, then eventually give the car a proper paint job. For grins I played with some tape and layed down some scallops, and really liked the results. Since my seats are red, I'm having a hard time visualizing what colors will go well with the outside of the car (I'm thinking dark grey body with light grey scallops?) . For the wheels I'm leaning towards a set of lancer hubcaps with a decent whitewall or a set of chrome o.e. wheels with a thin whitewall. Also to throw into the mix I have a pair of steel and stainless-steel fender skirts.

What would you do? Here's a picture of what I'm working with:

Nice, scallops look great!! That tape work must have took ages!! Some sort of navy gray would be nice as base color.
I'm not a photoshop guru but I do have a pic of my 64 merc with chrome wheels thin white's and bullit caps.... Cheap and good looking.

Yep, I started taping the car on a Saturday afternoon and finished off the following morning. To top it off I had the wrong size tape so most of my time was spent cutting it down. I only did the driver's side and half of the hood and trunk, you can tell there's no tape on the p***enger's side rear quarter. I'm with ya on the navy gray, maybe with a medium grey accent for the scallops.

    Thanks!

Well, my Meteor looks about the same as in the picture, except a little burnt under the hood! Shortly after I took the picture of the taped scallops I drove down to a friend's house to get his opinion. He wasn't home, but on the way back I managed to get a flat tire. That was the tip of the iceberg, since a couple of days later when I went to move the '62 Meteor it had an engine fire - caused by a split rubber fuel line and a bare wire on the negative side of the coil. Luckily damage is minimal, but between the mechanical issues and rust issues, I've changed my direction and been working on my 1962 Ford Fairlane. Any pictures of yours?

    Thanks!
