  1. First night I had my '56 chevy wagon finished.....took it to a cruise night at the local A&w cruise night in visalia. All my car guy friends went and voted my car peoples choice. After I won all the crabby old guys walked over to my car to check it out, and picked it apart with me standing next to it. Called it a piece of shit, not even finished, my car is worth twice as much...and so on. I let them run their mouths for about 10 mins. Then stepped up and said ok guys...well not too bad of a car for a 16 year old though right? they all looked liked a deer in headlights. I told them it's sad how critical they can be over something thats not a big deal. I went on to tell them they shouldn't discourage young guys from getting into older cars. They pretty much all left feeling like the assholes they were.

(This happened a long time ago, and the statute of limitations has long since expired)

    "I didn't back into you"
(as I stood there next to My Stude Hawk after watching him as he backed into me)

    My reaction?
"I didn't punch you in the nose"

    I won.
Went home, took off the front bumper.
Put it in between two 4x4's
    Jumped on it.
    Put it back on.

Went out looking for my next victim:eek:

cruised into a run in my 33 Dodge HEMI Powered Roadster, parked it & walked away & some tossers on his cell telling his buddy hey you should see this black 32 ford with a HEMI that's just turned up........

man they think every roadster is a Tupperware (plastic) ford, surprised he got the HEMI correct!

I haven't gotten much guff yet, but then again I hardly show any of my projects to people unless it is on a forum, generally to get info. I already get crap from people about wanting to put a Pontiac in my Pontiac. I've never understood why a Chevy engine has to be put in every car out there.
Generally as a spectator I give compliments if I really want to talk to the owner of a car, usually I just take pictures and keep walking.
I remember one time I was selling some parts, this old guy came up in a really old Ford pickup he said he uses as his daily driver. It was a sweet truck, beat to heck but in a good way for a workhorse. He says he always puts Chevy engines in his Fords. Anyway, he came up and looked at a Pontiac 301 I had, said something like these engines were awesome, had a lot of power. I should have offered to sell it to him because everyone else says 301s are boat anchors.

It isn't so much what people say,it's more of what they do that urks me. Where I work,a few of my club prospects hang out and bring their rides and a few friends every once in a while and my coworker. Now,all their rides are in primer for the most part, and for some reason people seem to think that is a green light for them to go ahead and use the cars as a park bench. I tell them to get off the car and their response is usually "It's just primer",to which I respond "Well,it ain't your car dumbass". Some people have no manners.

The attitude and ignorance of people at car shows is amazing. I think most just don't know or understand but some are jerks looking for a confrontation. It's probably a jealousy or inferiority thing so I try to be kind and mostly ignore the trouble makers.
For the dumb ones, they just aren't car people and it's OK. If we are nice to them we further the hobby. Anything with too long of an explanation I just say it's a tradition and they're OK with it.

For the pricks who say something like "you sure were foolish not to use the XX heads" or whatever, I say something like yeah, I'm new at this and change the topic. They just walk away muttering.
If they say something like "you sure ruined it with that body line" I say something like "Yeah, but now I know better for next time" and end the conversation. I just 100% end it and start doing something else and rarely does anyone come back for more. It makes life much more enjoyable for me and really does screw with the mental attitude of the pricks. They don't know what to say and go look for trouble elsewhere.

I have a unique fiberglass body on the current ride so I have a lot of potential problems but I play "stump the chumps" with them and they leave me alone. You can't win a battle with a loser.

lets see, i went to take my of topic to a friend of mine's garage, I normally fix everything myself, but i had a lot of stuff going on and i needed to change the oil pan gasket, had a nasty leak, just didn't have the time to fix it, this was someone I knew, well he's pretty smart, but one of the people that worked there, he said they won't change oil pan gaskets, if they take off the pan the engine will blow up when they start it back up. said the oil pump will lose it's prime, i said I had better not change my oil anymore then!!!

  26. A bit OT but True, people are taller now. I think it has less to with food supplies and health care and more to do with bovine growth hormones in the meat and milk.

Some of these are reeeeeaaaally funny! Whenever I want to laugh, I come back to this thread. Judging from the huge number of posts on this thread, I guess a LOT of "experts" say a LOT of dumb things about our rides! HA!

I took my hood to get sandblasted. The owner of the place asks me what the hood is from, and I begin to tell him how I'm building a hot rod and that I'm trying to do most of the work myself. He asks me where I'm going to get it painted, and I tell him that I'm going to paint it myself.

He then says, "oh, your building yourself a rat rod". Now how is painting a car yourself automatically classify it as a rat rod? Instead of waisting my time trying to explain the difference between a rat rod and a traditional rod to someone who isn't going to get it anyway, I just say "yeah, that's right" and walk away.

Wow, this is OT but guys will see your post and make an innacurate assumption. No intent to hijack. We farm and there is no question people are taller from the better food. And nitrogen fertilizer makes that possible.
Growth hormones, etc, are late to the party and have nothing to do with "growth" other than the name. Food was far more suspect and adulterated "back in the day".

To stunt growth back to the deuce era one would need to have a strict vegan diet and starve themselves of protein.
