    Royal,
That picture (as damn great as it is!) is a bit distorted...that house, barn, etc were across the highway and much further away than it looks.

    Kentuckian,
Please PM me if you have anymore Muncie Dragway pics!!!

    THX

These are not from the VA Drag Strips website. These are photos that were given to me years ago from a guy who knew my favorite classes are Stock and S/S. All he wanted to keep was the ones of dragsters.

Could those be early PID , Pittsburgh photos?

Eldorado's last pass was at Bluegrass Dragway in Lexington early 70's resulting in a fatality for the driver.

Was this a Colorado based car? I assume that it served as one of the early waves of Chevy powered fuelers that existed in the early 60's. Since the 327 had just been released in what 63 1/2, it wasnt available to the average hot rodder, so the aftermarket firms like Isky, Reath and C-T among others offered bore/stroke kits that pushed the easily obtainable 283's to massive proportions of about 400 cubes.

The photos on this thread are truly remarkable. I love seeing the photos that were never published in magazines, the 'Instamatic'pit shots and Polaroids. It makes me wonder how something so creative, exciting, daring and colorful could become so repetitive, overly controlled, uninspired and bland. You know you're getting old when you realize the 'old stuff' is better than the 'new stuff'.
After going through all 700 + photos I also really enjoy seeing the character of the tracks. By only catching a glimpse of the background you can tell Indy, from Pomona, from Englishtown, etc. Even the tracks had a personality.
I don't attend NHRA events anymore because it's hard to digest what it's become.
The CHHR is the only event I care to visit anymore.
    Sorry to go on.
Back to more cool photos !

    Yep, that was another time.

Acrobatic flag men, the combined smells of nitro and burning rubber, and the SMOKE. On a still day it felt like it took forever for the smoke to dissipate and go away. If you went to the races on Sunday it could take until Tuesday to get that smell out of your nose.

This isn't the world's clearest picture but it shows how things used to be.

Like they say, "I guess you had to be there".

Yep, that was a different time.

The showmanship of the flag men, the combined smells of nitro and burning rubber and the SMOKE. On a still day sometimes it seemed like it took forever for that smoke to dissipate.

Nobody went 300 mph and nobody went 200 mph but to a lot of us old goats it was a better show than the unbelievable speeds and times we have today.

Well, like they say, You had to be there!

    Jim

This isn't the clearest picture in the world but it gives an idea of the way things were.
