Which way to the lenses go? Flutes out or flutes in? I have looked at all the photos I can find, but can't tell for sure. Thanks!
Yep. We are back at it on the Legion Special. It's time to blow it apart and start the finish work and paint! The last real remaining question mark is the headlights. Matt had a shitty set of repop shells (all I've seen are, except the ones from Crafty-B) we're going to spend time on. I just got a really nice set of repop lenses from SAR (Steve's Auto Restoration) in Oregon and they are really nice. They will make the headlights. We'll be fabbing the guts and grinding, sanding and grinding until the shitty shells fit together acceptably. I have more time than money, so I'll be doing a lot of aluminum whittling over the holidays.
Here is an untouched set of E&J's from Steve's stash. The back one has never even been unwrapped. The flutes face in. Hope this helps. Kirk, thanks for the plug on here. We also have a pretty huge collection of other rare NOS lenses if anybody is looking for anything in particular. Chris Steve's Auto Restorations
One virtually all headlamp lenses the focusing flutes or patterns are inside the lens and the face of the lens is smooth so as to broadcast the light without distortion.
HOLY MOLY! What a collection! Look at all the Woodlites!! The lenses are excellent. I expected them to be great like all SAR products, but they are stellar. I actually got the crappy bezels ground last night and they now fit the lenses perfect. There's a lot of work ahead to make the rest of the housings worthy of the lenses. Thanks again for getting them to me so fast!
This won't help with the "flutes" question, but I think that's already been answered. Here's a copy of the original maintenance booklet in case anyone needs it.
