Have not seen this one in a long time...Les Barath's "Freedom Fighter" AA/MSP, blown gas burning hemi in a rare Italian sports coupe...Les escaped from Hungary during the 1956 failed revolt against the Soviet Union, thus the name of the car...he had a thick Hungarian accent and was sometimes hard to understand, but his passions for both freedom and drag racing made him a real hero to those of us lucky to have known him.

This is the Red Turkey Special, note the moonshine jug shaped number plack affixed to the chassis.

Here are some more photos of our families drag cars.
    1. The 1st car my dad built. A gutted out Crosley on a homebuilt frame with a 283 chevy
    2. A few years later we moved up to an injected altered. This is the 2nd rev of this car.
    3. This is the final altered we had. Much lighter chassis. Dad built his own 2 speed tranny, similar to the one Garlits exploded. After that incident it was not allowed and we went back to a powerglide.
    4. Into the dragster phase

Here are some of our later cars.
1,2,3. In the summer we would head back to ND to help my Grandpa harvest and we would race on the weekends. These shots are from Saskatoon. The blue car is 1975 and the R,W & B is from 1976.
    4. our last dragster, at home
    5. our 1st RE car at Sacramento
    6. Our last trip to Saskatoon
    7. One of the 1st FE cars at Sac.
    8. Same car at Kingdon dragstrip near Stockton. Racing Glen Wild

Yeah, I don't really remember too much about it since I was pretty young then. That is me in the 2nd photo with the light blue altered workin on my tan at Raisin City drag strip outside of Fresno. It looks like our Suburban was brand new so that was in 1969.
Here is another picture around then. This is Don (Curly) Moore from Merced, CA. Don later would own the Blood, Sweat, and Nitro top fueler that was part of the 5 second club. This car ran top gas and we actually bought this car and it is the one in the wheel stand picture. Good times.

I know this was posted a while back, but I still think it is a cool photo worth showing again.

Super Stock class eliminations in 1962 at Detroit Dragway. Thats right, four at a time.

Vic Hubbards on Meakland Ave. To cool. That brings back memories. And the '32 three window is way cool. Love this thread.
