Time for a L head 6 pic thread. Gotta be a lot of em out there, in the car, on the stand, in the discard pile. Together, apart, stock or built. Olds, Pontiac, Ford, Mopar, Continental, Hercules, Willys (you F head guys too, and if there any Willys OHC come on along) H E T, American Motors, Nash, Studebaker, Graham, Hupmobile, Lafayette, any others. I'll start 56 Plymouth 230 on the stand In the car
Looks good. Have you checked out the first fire-up video that's current on here at the moment? http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=429344
Thought there would be more interest in these. Guess most folks just pull em and throw in the belly button motors.
I have seen a blower setup for a flathead 4-banger. Was there a similar setup for these flathead six cylinder engines? Did it work? Dan Stevens dba, Steelsmith
Here's my '53 rod knockin 230 on the way out. Got the rebuilt '54 Chrysler 331 in now. Stock Front mounts bolted up after switching left for right. After driving this for 30 years with the 6, can't wait to feel how it runs with the hemi.
The Pontiac is the old Eddie Miller lakester and the Stude is in an early Sprint car that is being restored.
Curious that the head is taped onthe drivers side for the heater, most of the latter models the heat tap is on the pass side. Nice looking set up
Red = 223 Ford Blue = 254 Ford that will end up in my roadster project in the next few weeks as soon as the chassis gets home. It turns over by hand and has compression but I haven't fired it yet. Thanks to Rob-Redm for the contribution to the project. That little engine he has for his shoebox is a real nice looking mill that should bark pretty good and have a bit of bite.
Tell us more about the Graham adaptation. what the peak boost? On the Graham, I notice that is looks like the heater plumbing might go through the the blower is it for the fuel charge or for the blower bearings???? Guess your are not running it but I noticed it on the Grahma pIge owners site. I also believe Graham got kind of in the chrysler fold during itd demise, to bad the supercharging never got carried over. I think I read the stock Graham page which was about 22 cu inches made 110 horse and the huffed version made like 128. Guess the Motoring Press in Britain was quite taken with the set up. Who says the V8 guys have all the fun???
VERY cool! I had a flathead 6 in my ford with a 3 speed OD tranny and got something like 40 mpg driving to primer nationals! Had a tiny motorcraft carb on it, had NO power but Great mileage! Very reliable too until that bastard u turned infront of me...
Heres the engine bay in my 41 Plymouth Coupe and the 230 engine mock up that will eventually go in it.......plus a couple of pics of the car......andyd
