Little rant ! sorry to vent ! What the heck !

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by rob-redm, Dec 27, 2009.

  1. So a guy from out of state saw my car on Craiglists( flakes beware I should know by now) After about four phone calls back and forth. He request about more pictures( well sent him about 15 very detailed pics) So he calls me again while I have the car out and ask detail questions about my rig ( being honest hey it's 50 years old, but it's a really nice driver the way it is I tell him, not perfect but a fun car to just enjoy) So the person makes me a offer , ok good. let's do it. Then he does the chicken thing by sending me a email and doesn't have the guts to call me to back out. What gives these days I just don't get it, I guess people word just isn't what it use to be. Thank you letting me get this off my chest just had to let off steam !

Kinda follows along with another similar post about "offers" on here last few days.....bottom line is there is no deal until the money crosses. And some people don't mind wasting your time, even when they pretty much know that they can't, or won't be making the trade. Not much a guy can do about it when you are trying to accomodate someone when you have something for sale.

I had a guy that looked at a mobile home I had for sale one time and he had said he would be back to buy it when he got the money together, (but he didn't have a deposit, and I never said I was going to take it off the market), and sure enough, as soon as someone came by that had the money in hand and I sold it, he, and half his family were calling me and making threats about legal actions, whipping my ass, ect., because I "broke my word", and that "we had a deal", and I didn't sit there and pass up a sure sale while he tried to make up his mind, or get the rather small amount of money together. that crap really pisses me off, e mail and cell phone text make it easy to weasel out when someone lacks the spine to tell to directly either by phone or looking you in the eye.

  9. You may be correct !!!

  10. happened to me here on the HAMB and on CL as well. It is what it is, when you get to post for free you have to expect some percentage of flakes that are going to respond...

  11. Yeah that was my post about the 'offers', and I'll continue to do business the same as me, you and most of the world seem to. I'll do all I can for the buyer to help him make up his mind, but its sold when I'm counting the money. I've actually seen a few ads that said "If you have to clear it with your wife, do it before you call". Haha!

  12. Had plenty of those, and have learned the hard way over the years. Just recently had a guy text me about passing on a deal, but he said he scored something really good and he was/seemed honest.I was happy for him. It's the one's that ask for an address,or will I be around that piss me off. Here's the deal- Cash is KING! And when you get into town, call me and I'll give you dirrections. But the winner is....I gotta talk to the MRS.!
Some people just don't have the sack to say why for what ever reason. If I sense any BS-they're done! But not mannin' up, pretty much takes the cake.
You have the right to bitch.

At least her sent you an email letting you know that he's not interested anymore, most of the time you just never hear from them again.

It's part of the game...take the good with the bad. I'm surprised he contacted you at all...many these days just leave you hangin'. You wouldn't believe the goofballs I've dealt with through "Gregslist". I swear, if I was selling apples, they'd be calling for oranges...and I've had some that wanted me to go to Africa to get banannas! Hahahahaha!!! At least you didn't go to great extents for him...it was just verbal (and pictures). It does tend to affect your faith in humanity, but it's that much sweeter when someone actually does what they say they're gonna do. It's become a joke between my wife and me...when I get a call for a car I have for sale, we say, "Another adventure!", and laugh. As Tommy said, "Just laugh it off and go on".

I tell all of my buyers or potential buyers that my car is for sale until I have cash in hand. Period. I am tired of playing footsies with guys, whose old ladies won't let them buy parts/cars. If you can't get the funds together, fine by me, just tell me, no biggie. The parts or cars are always still for sale. But on the other hand, don't come crying if I sell the car while you spent 3 weeks trying to borrow money.

I am always looking for a deal, so when I find a car I'm interested in I always ask them to send more pics, and there's usually a little bit of emailing back and forth. However, I will NEVER tell someone I'll take it unless it's a done deal and I'm prepared to get them some $$ to back up my word. If someone tells me they'll take it, I tell them it's for sale until they get me some $$ to tie it up. There's way too many talkers out there. You can't avoid them.

Just sold one of my cars on CL and it makes you wonder if some of the clowns are just collecting pictures. I had many call and make an appointment to take a look and that was the end of it. Many said thay had cash in hand and was on the way--"Still waiting" The last guy out of 300 calls and emails said I will be there in one hour with cash in hand . He did and we are both happy but having to mess with the clowns you have to ask your self iis it worth it?

Besides good stuff Craigslist is an excellent place to find FLAKES! Just did a deal with a guy from Tacoma, he asks me "have I given you my address or directions to my house?" my answer "no", his response, "do you think you will need them" me again "yep that would help" Oh well it can be entertaining. Haven't read all of the thread, don't need to. From your post you must be a car selling virgin. At 65 years old I've dealt with this situation at least a couple of hundred times (probably more like 500). Go to your mommy, tell her all about it and see if she can kiss it and make it all better. OR, suck it up and get on with your life.

  30. At least he said something, I've had a couple guys on here say they want something, then just vanish into thin air, no response to emails, nothing. That's a real asshole move.
